Do your best but expect to be awarded for an outstanding performance or deed. If you give your all and are not recognized for it then simply stop what you are doing and only do what is the norm until your are recognized. Too often people do an exceptional job that others think is simply part of your job. But if part of your job includes doing theirs as well then you should be compensated for it. Yo, BDFC sound familiar?

Fire Strike,
Yes I remember the last 2 years of doing someone elses job for them and then have them kick you to the curb. Hey does this sound familiar, writing someones Fire Officer certs for them so they could get promoted to the top position. To add insult to injury, they had that person show them how things run up on the hill because they didn't have a clue about running the snowball stand.
Things finally got better once that person on the hill retired and the weight was lifted off the one kicked to the curbs shoulders. Things always work out with time and the dinosaurs all retired to live in Jurasic Park.
Well you are in a much better position now and I wish you all the best for it is well deserved. They say "time heals all wounds" and "good things come to those who wait". Some people are still waiting.
