AIRPORT DIVISION FIRE CHIEF
Fire Training Option (4016)
The Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) is currently accepting applications for the Career Service position of Airport Division Fire Chief, Fire Training Option. This is the managerial level of airport fire training work at the Baltimore/Washington International Airport Fire and Rescue Department (BWIFRD). The employee develops, delivers, coordinates, schedules and reviews all fire department training areas. Work is performed at an airport fire station and at response locations throughout the airport, which are exposed to high noise levels from aircraft. In some emergency situations, the Airport Division Fire Chief wears protective clothing and may be exposed to hazardous situations. Employees in this class are considered essential employees and are subject to call-in twenty-four hours a day. Duties may include serving as an Operational Airport Division Fire Chief when needed.

SALARY: $43,205 to $66,774 with excellent health and leave benefits, free Transit Program, and advanced education and training benefits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
EXPERIENCE: Four years of experience as a career officer, in the rank of Lieutenant or above, at an airport or municipal fire department.
Licenses, Registrations and Certificates:
1. Employees in this classification are assigned duties that require the operation of motor vehicles. Employees must possess a Class C motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
2. Employee must obtain a Class B motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland within six months after appointment to this classification.
3. In accordance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, an employee in this option will be required to have the following certifications:
NFPA 1003 Airport Firefighter
NFPA 1021 Fire Officer II
NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector I
NFPA 1041 Emergency Service Instructor Level III
4. Certification as a Level II Fire Instructor by the University of Maryland Instructor Certification Review Board is required prior to appointment.
5. A candidate appointed to a position in this option will be required to possess a Maryland Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B) license issued by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems within six months after appointment.
6. Employees must obtain an Airfield Operator Permit in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations 11.03.01.04, Control of Vehicular Traffic on the Air Operations Area, at the time of appointment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Persons appointed to positions in this class must maintain a prescribed level of physical fitness, and will be required to take a medical examination to determine continued physical ability to perform the work.
2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
3. Candidates will be subject to pre-employment drug testing in accordance with the Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
4. Employees in this classification are considered “Essential Employees” and will be required to adhere to all policies and procedures relating to “Essential Employees” status.
5. Employees are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and will be required to maintain a reliable communication link (telephone or pager) for the purpose of emergency call back requirements.
