FIRE CHIEF - CITY OF MENOMONIE

DESCRIPTION: The City of Menomonie, Wisconsin is a growing community in Western Wisconsin conveniently located approximately one hour west of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The community is home to 15,000 residents and an entire service area of approximately 25,000 people including UW-Stout, a state university campus of 7,000 students. The community is seeking a dynamic and skilled fire/EMS administrator who will report directly to the mayor and city administrator. The individual will be responsible for overseeing the department's 29 full time and 20 paid- on- call members and a total budget exceeding $2,500,000. The city has over a 100-year history of full time fire service and incorporated a private ambulance service into the operations during the late 1990s. The department currently operates out of two facilities with 15 fire and EMS vehicles.
The city is a growing community due to its proximity to the metropolitan market and anticipates possible expansion into a third station. The city is seeking a candidate with a broad and extensive technical knowledge of the operational characteristics, services and activities of comprehensive fire prevention, fire suppression, hazardous material, and emergency medical programs. Leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills to develop the next generation of community wide fire/ambulance service personnel while maintaining high performance standards is sought.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors' degree from an accredited college/university with emphasis preferably in fire science, business administration, or closely related field. Five years of progressively responsible experience in fire operation, emergency medical and related areas for a non-volunteer, municipal fire/EMS department including five years of management and administrative experience as a captain/battalion chief in a similar size agency preferred. A valid state driver's license and national registration as an EMT Basic will be required. The successful candidate will be required to establish permanent residency with a ten minute response time of the main fire station within six months of appointment to the position.
