How hard is it to transfer from the medic position to a firefighter position?

You must be a medic for at least one year, then you can demote to Firefighter Paramedic. But that does not mean that you will never ride the medic. Just means that you go into the ALS rotation.

Is there an age limit on becoming cross trained? I'm pretty sure DC has a limit on what age you can be to start as a firefighter. What is the ALS rotation line in Baltimore? How often to ride the fire trucks?

Don't know where that info is coming from, but you don't even need to think about reducing to firefighter until you have ten years in. It certainly is not an easy task and you may be denied quite frequently.

WHAT,,,DONT KNOW WHERE YOU GET YOUR INFO FROM...YES IT IS HARD TO DEMOTE BUT ACCORDING TO THE MOPS AND BYLAWS IT IS STILL 1 YEAR OF SERVICE UNTIL YOU CAN DEMOTE........THERE WAS TALK ABOUT MAKING BETWEEN 7-10 YEARS BUT THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED YET....

To answer PGBrothers question. Details are currently handled by telestaff. Lateral Entry Paramedics are assigned to a medic unit and thats all they ride. Those who come in through the FPA program and are either FPA's or FF/PM's Are put into a pool and supposedly selected by the computer for medic details based on the number of hours that member has been detailed to the medic. you may ride the medic a day here and a day there or you may ride it consecutive days/weeks depending on when the computer puts you on there. the current policy for FPA's is when they complete their 3 year apprenticehip program they are long term detailed to the medic for 1 year straight (or until the department no longer needs them long term to the medic) but that has been different with every class.
Thats kind of a Basic overview of how that works. Hope it helps.

Does anybody have any idea when the next lateral P class list will be posted? I heard that it will most likely be after the FF/I class gets through registry this month, but is that correct?
