From firehouse.com, it seems to me something is missing from the truck company operations here that might really help the guys inside.
Any thoughts and if so why it happened. Reading the story might help. http://cms.firehouse.com/content/article/article.jsp?id=40363§ionId=45

Would be awful nice to have those other 2 windows out followed by ground ladders to “A” & “C” then vertical vent over the fire room. Just my thoughts if I were there calling the shots.

In defence of the crews in the photo's no time frame is given for the photos, ie the truck crew on top of the building, and the lack of windows and ventalation. And whats wrong with a truck crew going to the roof if the fire has already vented, they could be doing other operations, checking the roof integraty, checking for extension, or any number of things. But yes ground ladders and pop all those windows.

There is no need to go on that roof. Looks like a preety old type III construction. Most of the heat is going out the window. Take out the other windows. Might have to do a flying stand-pipe from a couple of windows down. I don't know how cut up the place is.

I'm thinking ground ladders and maybe some water to put on that fire and of course the windows as stated above

A couple of truck tactics are missing out of this. Trenching the roof to stop the rapidly moving fire that started in the end of a long narrow structure. Ground ladders to the 3rd division for ingress/egress. Also a secondary means of egress for the roof operations. I cant really tell but it doesnt seem like the tip of the ladder is five rungs above the roof line.
Also if the interior crews are clear of the area, have the truck with the prepided waterway do a blitz on the 3rd division.
After reading the article i changed my mind on the trench cut.
But it did state they needed 3 holes to vent.

Where is thier quick evacuation route the truck's ladder isnt even near the roof! Good luck with the long jump boys.

Well let's see hear, the ladder must be close enough to get on the roof, and lets not forget, their are no photos of the other two sides of the building. Who knows maybe a second truck has laddered the roof out of the pictures or hey maybe they are the first in and no one else is their. Lets not be to quick to judge with out a better discribed time line and only four photos.

Porkchop you can see the firefighter underneath the ladder in the pic and if the ladder is up why not have it serving as a rapid exit point instead of having to go across the whole roof and I agree we cant see the whole perspective of the building or operations just adding my thoughts to the thread
