This is a 75' E-One quint, die-cast metal, I think about 1/43 scale. I repainted it, added the hose load, suction tubes, hand rails, mirrors, etc.

Mr Cleagle, I have 212 Code 3's in my collection, so I guess you can say I like them. Code 3 has got to be by far the best producer of Fire Appartus toys out there today. For the Price & the detail that they add, I don't think anyone is going to beat them for a long time.

Corgi, sold a Anniversary Seagrave Tiller at The Firehouse Expo this year. It was a Show Special. They were supposed to produce a Baltimore City Version, but something went wrong with one of the molds so I'm told. I can't wait till they bring out the Baltimore Version, so I can add it to my collection.

Tim they made the Baltimore City E30, a couple of years ago. It's still aviallble through a few sellers, But try E-bay you'll probably get a better deal on one. Tim also if your not aware, Corgi did a Anne Arundel County Quint 10 about 5 years ago. The City E30 Runs about 30-35 Dollars, and the quint 10 aout 35-45 Dollars. My quint 10 is in a display case, I'll try to get a photo and post it for you.

Just started a collection for myself. I pick up FDNY rescue 1, and the 9-11 T-10. I have looked at e-bay their are alot of pieces for sale there any one have any advice for purchasing off there. I have never bought anything off ebay. I just don't want to get screwed. I have also join code 3, I assume that was a good step to take. One more thing what are these "kitbash" I see for sale?
Bourkes
02-03-2004, 10:47 AM
somefireguy,
I have never heard of anyone having a problem with E-bay in regards to purchasing Code 3s.
Another vendor you might want to check out is Corgi, although they don't have a big selection of FDNY, if that is your primary collection interest.
There are a few "rare" Code-3 FDNY on E-bay, (if you can find them) that would really enhance your collection, for example,
Truck 111, "The Nuthouse". It's pretty pricey if you can find it.
Not sure what "kitbash" means, anybody out there that can help?
Good Luck
C
GregH
02-03-2004, 11:08 AM
Kitbashing is a term usually used in model building, i.e. model cars, model railroading, etc.
It is where the modeler takes a model kit or kits, and uses parts from the kit(s) to build a model different from what the manufacturer intended to be built.
If they are referring to a Code 3 kitbash, someone is probably taking a Code 3 model and altering it by changing parts, adding details, changing the paint scheme and graphics, to make the model look like a different vehicle.
How that alters the value is up to the individual.

Anyone know any tricks to getting Code 3 to make your truck????We sent in pics....but have never heard anything. Anything would be helpful
OCNYFireBuff
02-25-2004, 09:07 PM
If they choose to do it, you'll hear from them. A nice fat bribe wouldn't hurt, but who's got that kind of $$$?
How long ago did you send in the pics? With as many as they likely receive, and follow up on, it may take a while to hear anything. What kind of truck is it....something they already make? If so, and they think it might sell well, they might look into it, but sometimes there's no rhyme or reason to their train of thought. Good luck!

That's a SWEEEEET lookin' truck! Checked it out via link in your profile. I'd like to see it made, too. Why not call Code 3 and inquire about it? The Sutphen towers are among the best they do, even if not 100% accurate (i.e. they haven't figured out how to do the high hand rails on the aerial yet).

Bourke, I too like to display my Code 3's out of The Domes or New Packaging. I use Wall hung Display Cases from Giovanni Plastics. Each case holds from 45-50 Code 3's and there easy to install. Thaey cost $112.00 each including S&H. Here's a few samples.

Oh Yeah, and when your done takeing the Code 3's out of the domes, don't throw the Badges away. I went to the local Wal-Mart and purchased a $4.00 Peg Board, and I Glued Stick Pins or Thumb tacks to the back of the badges. Makes for a neat display. Cases look very nice. How effectively do they keep dust out?
Hungrybus
02-29-2004, 08:34 AM
OCNY Firebuff, They keep the dust out very well, They have 3 locks on the bottom of the case, one on each side and 1 in the middle, which causes a real tight seal on the front of the case. I have had the 1 case for a couple of years and the Trucks don't have any dust at all on them.

Great way to display your collection. I might look into those cases, really sweet.
I have built some wooden shelves to display my collection, but, it's limited to how many can be displayed on them.
Thanks for sharing the info, and keep collecting.
And I too save all of the plastic "buttons". I've never been able to figure out how to display them though, that's a great idea using a cork board. Again, thanks for all the great ideas.

damn i'm glad i checked out this site. hungry bus i like those cases. my wife boutght a "used" store glass display case like you see in stores that sit on the floor. i said "naaaah don't think so" right now i have my collection sitting on 2 bookcases which is ok but doesn't do very well at keeping dust out. i think i'm going to look into the cases like yours. $112 though........ouch

I don't post often, but I have to post this. Recently more than half of my Code 3 collection was recently stolen. All of these items were mint in box with sleeve. I am currently trying to gather a complete list of what was taken. Code 3 is sending me a complet list of what I have purchased from them since the beginning. I am also trying to contact ebay to see if they may have a history of my winning bids. We are talking about 100 to 150 pieces. The place where I was storing them was cleaned out by a neighbor who said he just "THREW" them away. These were all boxed and sealed and he just "THREW" them away. I lost a lot. I'm talking almost my entire FDNY collection (which I had 2 of each) as well as other hard to find pieces. They also took half of my Star Wars collection as well. Again, mint condition, never opened. I live in Levittown, PA. If anybody hears of a large collection going up for sale, wheter it be on ebay or on these pages or anywhere in this area, please let me know. I will be monitoring thse myself as well. The matter is being investigated by the Lower Southampton police as well as the Detectives. I would appreciate any help if anyone hears anything. Thanks.

Since RES 6 has been put in service (Six in the city) and with the Code3 FDNY Rescues soon to arrive, wouldn't a RES 6 Code3 be rare? It certainly would be great if Code3 would put out a RES 6.
I don't know if RES 6 is something permanent or something that will disappear because of budget constraints.
Any thoughts?

Yes, there is now a Rescue 6, housed with Ladder 20, BC 2 @ 253 Lafayette St. in Manhattan.
It has been in service now for a couple of weeks.

I believe it's only a Temporary Co. due to the "Threats" and elevated scare level.
OCNYFireBuff

It also has to do with the Republican National Convention. A lot of streets in the area of Madison Square Garden will be closed (or tightly restricted) for a while, so this is an extra unit to cover some ground in lower Manhattan that Rescue 1 might not be able to get to quite so fast.
As for Code 3 making it, it's a Mack MR with a General Safety rescue body, not another "regular" unit like R 1-5. And, since C3 frowns on doing one-off molds (too expensive) I say don't hold your breath.

That brings this question to mind, is everyone that ordered the FDNY rescues going to display them in the display case? I'm not sure if I will hang it. I might keep the rescues with the rest of my Code3s.
That said, I do like the looks of the display case, very nice.

Unfortunatly I don't have much of a display case for all my code 3s. So until I either buy a case or build one I am going to use the display. I think it looks pretty good. Can't wait to fill it with the other rescues. I must say code 3s and other FD die-cast are rather addicting. My collection keeps growing and growing.

I may use the rack at some point. More likely to do so than with the Squads, since the domes fit on these shelves, therefore keeping the trucks dust-free.

I used to keep all of my collectibles "under glass" but, now I don't. I just like the way they look better not under a dispay case. In fact, every week once I clean them I move them, and put some of the "sticks" up. It's a pain, but it works for me. In the next few months I will need to build additional shelving as I'm running out of room.
I'm not sure what I will do with the rescue rack.
I do have the squads on the display rack.

I heard they are nice but it's unfortunate that Code 3 makes you buy them all as a set.. some of us can't afford to dump $300+ on them, when all I really want is the Res4Cue.
OCNYFireBuff
10-16-2004, 11:55 PM
A lot of people have voiced similar concerns about that. Same thing happened with the Squad pumpers last year. However, Code 3 needs to justify the cost of making these one-off molds, and if they didn't all sell, C3 would be losing $$$. If the rescues were available individually, they'd probably only sell out one, maybe two of them.
If you want a R4, sign up on Code 3's message board and put up a request. Several people have purchased an extra set to break up for just that kind of situation. Probably get a better deal than eBay, too.

OCNYFireBuff
01-02-2005, 01:21 AM
Not sure if anyone makes a Contender yet. Code 3 has made a few top-mount Dashes, but most (if not all) are long since sold out. Can still be had from dealers, eBay, etc.
Code 3's first quarter of 2005 line-up:
4. 1974 Seagrave TDA - Baltimore City Truck 7
Here is the issue, for those who may have seen this picture. This is supposed to be a model for the Truck used in Ladder 49. It certainly has the price for it. But heres the issue. If they want to make it truck 7 then they need to change the colors to orange and white. If its to be modeled after the movie then they need to change the number and the lightbar. For the record the truck in 49 was first line truck 7 until 1994. But to market this as the movie truck without being totally accurate is not right
OCNYFireBuff
01-24-2005, 09:28 PM
There was more than a little bit of discussion about this on the Code 3 board, and the "incorrect" color scheme has cost them more than one sale, from the sounds of it. However, they have released updated pics of the model showing it with a single round beacon light on top, rather than the strobe bar seen in the movie.
Still, there are many who have not given up hope that Code 3 will some day get the licensing rights to produce a "Ladder 49" as seen in the film.

How'd you pull that off? They only started shipping Monday. Got mine in two days....must be a new FedEx record there!
Bourke...the "minor flaws" involve the wheels. The ten little holes around the edge of the Alcoa rim are drilled out on the front wheel, but not on the rear, and the hubs are covered, as opposed to exposed (painted red) on the real rig. Neither item got corrected, but it's still a great looking truck.
Anyone with a steady hand and a very skinny drill bit should be able to correct the hole problem easy enough. I know of a few folks who did that with the Rescues, and they're half the size.

Actually, upon further investigation, one of the "errors" actually isn't an error or oversight at all......the truck has had hub covers added since they received it, along with LED light bars, and the other items fd141 mentioned. So basically the only thing wrong is the non-drilled holes.

Yeah, got mine the other day. Looks really good. Heard a couple of comments on the Code 3 board about some lights and/or a siren missing from the bumper, but I'd have never known. Looks OK the way it is. Only thing I might have changed is I think the stripes should be just a tad bit wider. That's basically the only reason I bought it (already have TL-31).....wanted a Mack 'scope in something resembling the current livery.

Oh yeah, they've hit themselves another home run here. But, of course, all the naysayers on the Code 3 message board who, it seems, aren't happy unless they've got something to bitch about, they're all up in arms about how it's not perfectly in scale. Maybe just a hair bigger than 1/64. You'd think after Code 3 delayed it to fix the error with the wheels (the prototype had duals on the tiller  ) that they would be happy to have it "as is" now.
I can't wait to see what this bad boy looks like in the orange/white scheme.

I'll probably see the Code3 BCFD truck next month @ fire expo in Harrisburg.

OCNYFireBuff
04-29-2005, 06:12 PM
Somebody on Code 3's board posted some pics of Truck 7 alongside other Code 3 releases, for comparison purposes. I'd say it is a hair "out of scale". The Seagrave is bigger than most, if not all, of the others it was next to. Should be "slightly" smaller than at least some of them, as a real Seagrave of that era is not as "big" as many modern rigs.
Still an outstanding piece, if you can get over the "size matters" issue.

I was looking at my FDNY Rescue Set and noticed a differance between Rescue 2 and the others (5,4,3) On the back of Rescue 2 where the amber lights should be there are blue ones. Now was this a code 3 screw up or is it actually like that?

It's supposed to be like that. The real R2 has blue lights.

Has anyone found the 1/25 scale ALF Eagle kit made by Trumpeter? I've looked for it and can't find it in the hobby shops, and didn't remember which FAJ it was reviewed it to see who made it for a special order. Has anyone seen/built this kit?
Thanks,
Odie

I *could* be wrong, but I don't think that's officially been released yet. Been hearing talk about it on and off for a year or two. Last time it came up on the Code 3 boards, there was some pretty scary numbers being tossed around in terms of an estimated price.

BCFD Truck 10 (orange/white scheme) arrived today, a day ahead of FedEx predicted ETA. Looks great! Nice little ray of sunshine amidst the controversy that rocked the C3 message boards over the weekend.

Somebody on the ATEV board (which I keep forgetting still exists, and frankly, don't know why it does)....posted an item about there being 9 people laid off from Code 3. Which prompts a certain "lime" colored apparatus buff to go into "Chicken Little" mode. Instead of "The sky is falling", he kept insisting that the demise of Code 3 Collectibles was imminent. Between the "light" 2nd Quarter, them not going to Baltimore, and now this ("Companies that are doing well do not lay off people" he insists).
This guy goes off on rants from time to time where he states his opinion as fact, and insists that this is the way things are, and if you don't believe him, you're basically wrong. Trying to reason with him is like trying to put out a forest fire by pissing on it.....ain't gonna happen. He thinks that if he tells enough people that Code 3 is living on borrowed time that maybe it actually is. And, of course, all of this crap is unfolding on a holiday weekend, where we assume it'll be at least two more days before we hear an official statement one way or the other.
Enter Orlando Ramos (Code 3 R&D bigwig, and fellow collector). Takes time out of his personal day off on Monday to reply. Problem is, he's apparently gotten a new computer, and didn't save his old sign-in info, so now he's got yet another new screen name, which of course sets the skeptics in motion thinking it's some joker claiming to be Orlando.
Orlando assures us that Code 3 isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and even after apparently calling this guy at home and telling him man to man, the dude's still a little skeptical. 'Twas a regular zoo there for a while yesterday.

I do not go on the other board, so please keep us posted.
Hopefully this is only a rumor.

Yeah, Code 3's imminent demise was just a rumor, fabricated by some nut job trying to draw attention to himself. He became so obsessed with it that it began to snowball.
The layoffs were throughout Funrise (parent company). Total of nine, only three of which were from Code 3, all in the Customer Service dept.

Hmmm.....the Club area is "supposed" to be restricted, yet that link works for me without being logged into C3.
Yes, the long-awaited SPS is finally going to become a reality. Hopefully the narrow front axle (wheels "should" be almost flush with the edge of the cab, no?) will be one of the only discrepancies we encounter here. The "Holy Grail of die-cast", as they put it, should be as close to perfect as they can possibly make it. Hopefully they won't drop the ball on such a highly coveted piece.
Among other goodies for next quarter (which opens for pre-order to Collector's Club members on June 30), is the also long awaited debut of an American LaFrance Century series pumper.

They aren't "officially" hyping it as such, but the orange/white version of the Seagrave TDA is being considered the Expo piece for this year.

Hey OCFD, will the Orange & White TDA be marked for expo, or will it stay BCFD?

It's lettered as BCFD Truck 10. They made 1,974 pieces (playing on the model year of the rig, 1974). It was released last quarter, and is either sold out, or very close to it.

Well this was one of my favorite threads and unfortunately no one has posted to it in a while.
Got some real nice additions to my "fleet" recently.
First up is the United States Capitol Police K9 unit, in 1/32 scale.
This rig, which was purchased from Manny's Diecast (www.mannysdiecast.com), is a steal in my opinion at $59.95. It is heavy, the top (roof) is removeable, and has many "opening" features. It says the manufacturer is "Unique Replicas", but it appears to be the same mold that Code 3 has listed as "Crown Premium" for their series of Command Units -- which also look great, but are priced higher, at $75 for members.
Does anyone know if these 2 companies are "one in the same", or at least related?

Next is this US Coast Guard helicopter -- 1/43 scale Agusta A109 Power Helicopter - available from Manny's for only $11.95. Great looking piece, and both side doors open.

This year's Hess truck is out: http://www.hesstoytruck.com/ and it looks great! (well, they look great -- 2 firetrucks in one!)
Can't wait to pick up a couple of them this weekend.

Yes, they are cool, I got 2 on Wensday. They have 4 buttons on top of the Truck to make 3 different sirens, and the other makes all the lights flash. The only thing I didn't like about this years Hess Truck, is that it has either Orange or yellow Lights in the Lightbar, I wish they would have made them Red.

I liked the Hess trucks better when they resembled real fire trucks, they're beginning to make them look too "toyish" in my opinion. It still looks cool though...

But as far as toys go, here's some very cool ones. You can build your own city. http://www.lego.com/eng/city/
If you go online and look at the cityscapes in the park, the one of DC is pretty cool and the one of NY is complete with firefighters and ladder truck.

Here's the latest Signature Series Model I picked up today at Wal-Mart. It's a 1938 Ford. I believe it's the same one that was out a few years ago, only all Red and with Georgetown Markings on it. This one is lettered for Everette Fire Dept. and is done in 1/24th Scale.

There are several of those Yat MIng models available like the Ford that Hungrybus posted above. Another model that is available is some Wal-Marts is a 1935 Mack pumper from Hanover, PA. The real pumper that this was modelled from is owned by Rudy Radish who lives in Calvert County, MD. There's also a red and white Ahrens-Fox but I haven't been able to find that yet.

I have a collection of over 300 vintage fire truck toys. Many are long gone from store shelves. Many are HO scale in great condition. I even have the entire set of the Kellogg cereal fire trucks from the 1950's. I would like to sell this collection as 1 piece for $1000. I will break it up but each piece will cost more.
