Was at the FOOLS convention a couple of weeks ago and we had a round-table discussion on training (drills, props, etc) and thought I'd see what the 'ol crust around here as to share. I got some great ideas from what was shared and why not start the discussion on here. Training is vital. Training is directly relative to your proficiency in a skill and the probability of you going home safely to your family.
So.. post your pics of props that you or your dept (we make the inmates on work detail or the rookies build them) have built or ideas that have proved to be a valuable training drill.
I'll start... I dont have a pic but hopefully I can give you a good visual.
Take (4) 2x4 or 2x6's and fasten them together in a large square frame. Each beam should be approx 8-10' long. Screw approx 8 eye-rings or eye hooks into each side. You can then thread or hook as much wire or any of the garbage that you would get from a fallen ceiling into a "web". Use this prop to lay over a FF who is blacked out and crawling through a structure. It gives an instant "fallen ceiling" scenario that can get tangled into their SCBA and whatever else. Once the FF disentagles himself... you can leave whatever he didnt cut.. add more... and repeat with the next FF.
