Hello,
I am a new medic, and will be graduating from college this spring. I want to work for a busy city, and DC looks like a possibility.
Anyone have any info? Is it a good system? Do you like it? Is it worth a try?
Any info, suggestions, or contact info would be great!
Thanks

Are the calls good? Are you guys overworked...(stupid question i guess)?, Do you have decent standing orders, nice equipment, etc? How is the pay? what is the work schedule?
Thanks

Low pay? Ok, go take the Baltimore City Fire Department test and get your starting pay of $28,000, and max out at $48,000 in five years. Right now, firefighters start at $42,500 and Firefighter/Medics start at $46,800
Long hours? Its eight days a month!
Poor equipment? That's an understatement as far as EMS units are concerned.
Schedule: Firefighters in the city work 24 hours and 3 days off.
Standing orders: If you mean the medical protocols, you can see for your self at DC Protocols (http://www.fems.dc.gov/fems/cwp/view,a,3,q,582844,femsNav,|31511|.asp)

If you are national registered paramedic - call Capt Campbell at 202-673-3330, there is a job annoucement for national registered paramedics[check the dcop.dc.gov site], you will be hired under an express process for F/F-Paramedic otherwise you might have to wait until spring 2006 for the new F/F test.
