I currently work at Blue Grass Army Depot located in central Kentucky. On post we are responsible for 1 large lake and several smaller lakes and ponds. At this time we are trying to justify to the DPW director the need for surface water rescue training and equipment. As of now we keep getting denied this training because the DPW director says their is nothing in DOD 6055 or in AR 420-90 stating the need for water rescue training/equipment. I am looking for help on how to justify the need for the equip/training. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

At this time boats may only be used on the large lake. Approx 2 years ago our members conducted a water rescue and saved a mans life after his boat capsized lucky for him he was only 200' from shore and we had some strong swimmers working that day.

Might want to check with Aberdeen Proving Grounds FD…. I know they have a boat and I’m pretty sure they have a water rescue team. On a side note, if you call Aberdeen you might want to ask them where they’ve been trained. I know the DOD Rescue II class at Goodfellow have a VERY brief overview on water rescue; but the can point you in the direction of a good class. Hope this helps.
