Our base is on the BRAC list and we are having a lot of difficulty hiring. I gues people are afraid to come even though we have 5 years left. There is scuttlebutt about brinigng in sailors.I guess thats ok as long as no one else wants the job. Just let me have some leave please!

Thanks, Yes thier is a paper out thier stating that CNI has asked for over 200+ Mil slots and I think they recived them, Thay state SOME of them can be turned into Civilan jobs. But thier are may problems with this. But I will not bring this up now. I hope you're planing to get out of thier in the next 3 years. Just remember CNI is still cut happy, as your base is redued and aircraft go away so will the FFs on your base. So update you resume on line and get it out thier, Near or far. Good Luck and thanks for the info.

At our base we have gone through PPV (loss of two stations) and an MEO that dropped us down to one ladder, one engine and one ALS rescue. We're trying to get an engine back, but that probably wont happen with a 29M shortfall this year!

Yes, thanks for the info. I hope in the next few months things improve for you guys and gals. You know the rumors like I do, about the one big possible change for your department. It could be good, BUT with the possible change things would change, your guys will have a little problem with some of the changes. At least two of them have worked under the rules. I myself think most of the changes are not a big deal (not talking about the Mid-Atlantic changes). They are more aggressive tactics and sum times get old, but will ready them when an incident happens. Ask mike he knows.

I hope your new HQ works out; it’s over due for you. I know the rooms are 1/2 size (8x8) and should be 12x12, but you don't need them all, right? You should place a door in the wall and make one big room out of two. They will have a bedroom and a living room. Or rip all the walls down and go back too open bays, It’s always great to hear the snoring and the morning smells  . Thing they will miss, LOL.

Killen (gone) and Stillwell (out to go!) have destroyed the
Navy fire service in the Mid-Atlantic (especially the DC
region) area. They run their personnel into the ground, lie
to both upper management and to the lower level troops
(f/fs on the floor). They don't and haven't hired to cover
shortfalls and spend money on themselves instead of the dept.

In the end the bases will pay the ultimate price when there
is a major fire/incident. Most of the affected bases now can't
even muster a first-alarm assignment for a normal room-and-
contents fire let alone a major terror attack or major building
or aircraft fire. They cross-man, cut and play the "risk-management"
game with other people's lives. They don't care, they go home
and sleep in their own beds EVERY night! Not like some of the
guys who do the REAL work for 48-72-and even 96 hours at a
shot! Things were so bad at one place that the Ass't Chiefs
were working on their days off changing tires on apparatus!
