My take on this is use codes within your responding district with your dispatch, if you go mutual aid, outside dispatch area that does not have the same codes as you...use plain language... If someone can not get on the mike and say "this is ladder 10000, coming into your scene, where do you want me.... Then how do people talk everyday ? Just seems that when people get on the mike they forget english ?

Or, you take the tower mutual aid by yourself to a call where units on scene have confirmed a working fire, and on arrival, command is screaming to get it set up and all you have that knows how to set it up is yourself. And then you have to tap into other departments to help you run your own truck. HOW EMBARASSING!

I think what is needed....is a dedicated training officer that has staff authority only. Someone who didnt get his experience out of firehouse magazine, watching youtube videos.....someone that has got some real experience that's able to blend real life and NFPA 1500 together....suggestions....???

I do, but he can't be Chief at the same time. And I'd rather see him as Chief.

See NFPA 1501, they do not allow such a thing.
