The easy answer of course, whatever Fenty wants him too...
But Brian Lee wanted to keep EMS in the DCFD. If they were going to do that, why wouldn't they keep their homegrown boy?
Atlanta seems to have some PEC's and the engine's run medicals, but transport is seperate....
GRADY EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES - ATLANTA
Grady Memorial has been located in the heart of downtown Atlanta for over 100 years, and for several decades has been the primary teaching hospital of the Emory University School of Medicine. Grady is the primary hospital for inner city and medically indigent populations in the two largest counties of the Atlanta metropolitan area. It has also developed the responsibility of a tertiary care center for areas such as trauma, burns, neonatal and high-risk obstetrical services, renal dialysis, and poison control. The Grady Memorial ECC provides medical control to the largest hospital based EMS system in the country. Grady EMS has over 95,000 calls per year and transports patients to every hospital in metro Atlanta.
Grady EMS staffs more than 20 advanced life support ambulances 24 hours a day and handle all 9-1-1 calls within the Atlanta city limits through the Fulton County 9-1-1 system.

Are they brining in an outsider to "do the deed"?

Already said he wants to keep it.
That should make the Mayor and our local happy.
They both want the ambo to stay in the FIRE Department
As far as Brian Lee................He got hosed! The Rosenbaum law suit said no one from the inside could make chief. The family thinks everyone on the job are idiots and can't handle the position. I think maybe they should have said that the next medical director needed to come from the outside. He is the one that actually let him die. DCFD got his ass there alive. He died 2 days later, but our department is to blame........................

FINALLY! A speaker of TRUTH! Right on the nose barman. We did get Rosenbaum to the hospital alive, and to the CORRECT hospital at that! Whadda ya think Sibley would have done if the ambo had showed up with Mr. Rosenbaum in their E.R.?? They would have SHIT!! And that's only if they would have correctly diagnosed him! Did Mr. Rosenbaum get inappropriate and substandard care in the street? Without a doubt. Did he get the same standard of care at H.U.H? Undoubtedly. And they're an effing trauma center!?! In the final analysis who killed this unfortunate gentleman? THE FUCKSTICK WHO WHACKED HIM IN THE HEAD    Of course our top three, YES ALL THREE OF THEM, did what they did best, they fucked us, thanks guys. They were like deer in the headlights. Here's a hint to any dipshit in a politically appointed position: All you have to say EVER is, "No comment, we have it under investigation, and it will be handled appropriately with the disciplinary measures we have at our disposal!"

I hear there gonna put the firefighters on a 24hour ambo shift with a 7 day on 0 days off rotation....more efficient that way and it will solve the age old relief battle. And leave must be approved 2 weeks in advance.

I heard it a little differently, 365 /24 hour tour details and then your off one tour every fourth year(leap year) wheew what A deal. But you will have great dental and vision benefits.

Hook,
How 'bout this? Any one of those three in the elite upper clown echelon could have said this,"We have no comment on personnel issues under investigation, however, the District of Columbia Fire and EMS Department does routinely successfully mitigate 120,000+ calls for help every year. With a call load like this, mistakes can happen and I would like to assure the Rosenbaum family that a full investigation is underway and steps will be taken to ensure something like this does not occur in the future." Wow. I wonder what would have happened had this even been said. In fact, it wouldn't be a bad thing to say right now, just for GP. Here's a challenge to the new whoever's at the top who'll be coming in: try giving a shit about your troops, you'll be amazed at how they respond. One fucking incident and the whole department gets hosed. Again, one more time, the department did not kill Mr. Rosenbaum, IT WAS THE FUCKSTICK WHO WHACKED HIM IN THE HEAD. Did H.U.H. have to change medical directors?!?

Remember just 5 and a half years ago we were the top of the food chain in the public eye hell people bought me beers just because I was fireman in DC. Now we are relegated to bottom of the barrel and get charged double(lol). Let's see here, a big "fire incident" and we are praised and loved, one bad EMS situation and were are hated and considered incompetent.

1. Transport immediately to closest open trauma facility
Transporting Mr. Rosenbaum to Sibley Memorial would have been a protocol violation. The three closest trauma centers are all equally distant within 2/10 of a mile. That can be dismissed as a rounding error. So Howard University Hospital was an appropriate transport facility. All the training and reforms on earth won’t change the fact that two animals violently robbed and attacked Mr. Rosenbaum resulting in his death.
“Howard University's performance was unacceptable, atrocious. It was Third World service in the nation's capital,"

I think this may be the only accurate statement uttered by the Washington Post in the history of the paper.

I agree, that is the only factual statement The Post has ever said. So why was the Fire Department labeled as the premier incompetents in the case? It goes to leadership. In my 21+ yrs. of service there has only been ONE truly competent Fire Chief AND he had a sack of balls. Usually only the Fire Chief is incompetent and his two AFC's can pick up the slack. If both the Fire Chief and one AFC are incompetent the other AFC can step up. What happened here? Obviously our three wise men were in WAAAAY over their heads and acted literally like deer in the headlights. Guess what guys, damage control isn't a dirty word. I can see why the Rosenbaum family directed most of their wrath at us, though. Anyone remember A-18's journal entry for the run? "Found one drunk and stupid..." Ouch. If Mr. Rosenbaum was a member of my family I'd be PISSED too. Remember gentlemen, our journals, ALL OF THEM, are legal documents and therefore open to the public.

The "Drunk and Stupid" entry was from another run. It had nothing to do with the Gramercy St run. I know because I looked it up in the journal after it was brought up in the IG report.

So, maybe......just maybe.....the Fire Dept. isn't the incompetent buffoons that people tried to make us out to be.
Maybe PD called in a drunk case and failed to see that a crime was commited (Deadly mistake? I don't think so)
Maybe the FD failed to diagnose severe head trauma, even tho we can't diagnose because we aren't doctors, yet STILL TRANSPORTED TO THE APPROPRIATE RECEIVING FACILITY and arrived there with a viable patient (Deadly mistake? I don't think so)
Hospital (staffed by Regestered Nurses and Medical Doctors) accepts viable patient from FD unit and sits said patient to the side for a substantial period of time.....patient dies days later from severe head trauma due to not being diagnosed, by persons ALLOWED to diagnose (Deadly mistake? I think so)
I wonder how all this actually plays into ALL of the lawsuits.
In the end a family lost a loved one to a tragic event, hopefully in hindsight others will not have to face the devestation they have endured.......I just hope that the ones responsible for the act, and the ones that failed the patient by their actions OR lack of actions are held accountable.....not just have one organization become the scape goat AGAIN

If our journals are, in fact, legal documents.....why are they not kept under lock and key?
Seems like legal documents should be kept secure....not just out in the open where anyone with a pen or pencil could make any entry they wished.
Not trying to start a pissing contest (for once) just asking

If our new leader turns out to be a Brunacini clone, fuck him! That pussy-assed customer service crap don't work here...we are NOT Fairfax County, Phoenix, Mesa AZ, whatever. We do not serve CUSTOMERS. We serve CITIZENS who deserve nothing less than the best. Brunacini's legacy to the American Fire Service, "customer service", what a load of HORSESHIT. I AM NOT A FRY-COOK AT A CHOKE AND PUKE, I AM A FIREMAN AND I SERVE THE CITIZENS NOT CUSTOMERS. Remember brothers, WE are the DCFD, not the Fire Chief who is but one person! :mad

:) Old head I address some issues one at a time. :)
Green dot – you are logged on-line using your screen name and connected to the forum, silver – you on but not using your logged on name, just another JAFO.
customer service – I hate to pop your bubble, but you already do 75% of Brunacini culture stuff, It was our past fire chief and his followers who could never see this,
Questions- when was the last time you did a home inspection? How about putting plastic over that window you broke out? The last parade or school you went to? How about not telling some asshole on medical local what a simple shit he/she really is? :D
those pesky faces - their in the advance menu area
So calm down a little, what Rubin and friend[s] will/can do will be dictated by the mayor office.
