Just wanted to say kudos to those members from 16,93,90,68, & 97 who participated in the live burn in Auburn. except for that one individual who forgot his brain and did not hook up his regulator while in the fire room, everything went very well. it was a good thing they had a shed in the back so we could take care of the issue the right way! :D Those members saw some good training that they would not have been able to see in any CT training facility. Temps got up as high as 1800 degrees! again good job, I hope you all learned something so you will better prepared for when the "real" thing happens!

I heard the drill started earlier than expected, when E-193 practiced speed laying down the interstate. OOPS!

I believe so, I was not informed of such an incident but I did see pics in any other forum of a hose packing drill on I-395N

I feel like I should appologize for our brain dead child who didnt hook up his regulator. I am thankful that the instructors allowed him to participate. I do question where were his team members to check one another before making entrance. Atleast in the old days... that's what we did....

since when did 16 land afford such high price items like a regulatur ?

No do not apoligize, We (the instructors) are responsible, we gave them the safety speech, stressed about FF safety and for all team members to check each other out prior to entering, I guess we just did not stress enough to check each others fire gear and equipment, not each other. :D

It's nice to know that our apparatus can go out of the state without watching for Mass. Dot. No red tags here.

Well, I'm glad to see we can stay on topic? anyway FYI some of the instructors the other day in Auburn recieved small burns from the fire. On the shulders and side of legs. 3 of them were using the new Reaction gear. I heard that this gear is causing burns to other fireman, anyone have any info?

Surprised at a live drill that we did on an old 3 bay wooden garage and the "Morning Pride" went from black to brown. You say the instructors wearing their "Reaction Gear" got cinged, and there were my other whackers wearing older stuff and nothing happened......Hummmmmmmmmm

After some discussion with other firefighters in the area, it appears most of the burns are in the shoulder area and they are very mild, 1st degree for those from old school EMS. I think new EMS is partical thickness? anyway, I'm looking for feed back from anyone else who may have encountered being burnt in a fire (training or real)

The only reason nothing happens to your shit is because your FF(wanna be's) are scared and stay home and read the firehouse mag. backwards. If your 3$ gear saw real heat it would go from brown to the dump in town.

Perhaps they should call it "Negative Reaction Gear".

The morning pride gear was discolored not burn't. I will make some phone calls about the reaction gear. Know a few people who wear it at a busy station.

Thanks justtruckin' any input would be great. I'm concerned about my fellow brothers and sisters having the same problem since we bought almost everyone new gear because "it looked good!" They didn't like the old gear being dirty from working at fires. actually there was nothing wrong with the other gear. and oh yeah 25truck, it is not me who wants to buy from that facility, it's your boss! :D

I know a station who just recieved funding for gear. They should be looking into which gear can best protect us. Since we don't run much fire, we could be the ones that make a mistake and get caught in a "hot" enviroment. Makes sense to me.

Any pictures of this reaction gear burning ? And the fire it was involved in ?... I agree we should be looking at what protects us, and staying within our budget is going to be the challenge...... Noted, and input is well observed on this chat.

MTFD515 has some pictures of the training. The gear didn't burn, the heat went right through the coat giving burns to the shoulders. Maybe he can post a pic of the fire.

LtDad, are you looking to get T-116 on the casino run cards too?
MTFD515
03-16-2007, 08:56 AM
we dont' have run cards, just a list of appartatus based on their response distance. We researched and evaluated response times based on quickest response routes and what department have the most manpower. The list should read a vol company, a paid company, a vol company, a paid company, just to ensure we are getting the manpower and appartatus. As most of you know a fire at a hotel takes a lot of mapower. A room and content would take at least 3 alarms to handle search, evac, fire suppression, vent, overhaul, etc. thats not inclcuding a Pt care if civilians get injuried. and yes sprinklered building DO BURN!!!!!!!!
FF IN TRAINING
03-16-2007, 09:38 AM
with ltdad in the seat we should have the best response times including beating your next door neighbors to the scene.

Is it called reaction gear because when you wear it to a fire the first reaction is to get the fuck out, and say this gear ain't worth a shit
FF IN TRAINING
03-25-2007, 08:18 PM
Second reaction is to give it to the backwards people in our dept, they seem to think fire is suposed to burn them and not the gear
