Before something bad happens at CBD.

It is a matter of time, I agree, but unfortunately Big Navy and Eddie accepted the risk. I really don't think they would care if the whole place went up in smoke.
More money for his "boyz and toyz'. Eddie is getting ready
to do the same thing at Carderock. Every time they close
down a dept there is ususally a major fire/incident. Anyone
remember Solomons annex? CBD is full of old WW2 era stuff
and labs with flammable stuff in them with not many people
around. Big time fire/fuel load. NDW spends almost no money
on fire protection or clean up, yet Eddie accepts the risk in
the name of 'cost savings' and 'efficiency'. CNI (or whatever
the name is this week) only accepts the recommendations
of the authority in charge (that would be Eddie). the "chief"
hasn't set foot on CBD more than half a dozen times since
he took it over in the 90's. Most likeyly he doesn't have a
clue as to what goes on down there. On the subject of
incidents, another example would be White Oak (another
Eddie takeover) and the things that went 'boom' and things
that leaked/spilled there after the FD pull-out. Probably it
will take a loss of life to get ANY attention back on the Fire
and Rescue services that Eddie is tearing down. (Then the
loss of life will probably be termed "within acceptable limits"
or "within budget".) I'll bet if CNI wanted to cut his secretary's
positiion he would got to the mat quick enough crying that
it was "essential" to the depoartment's mission! I'll bet if
CNI cut his travel budget so he couldn't attend all those
"seminars" and "conventions" that are so "vital" to the dept.
he would cry his eyes out! But he can swing that budget axe
like Paul Bunyan when it comes to manning and protection of
Navy facilities. He will work a firefighter overtime until they
drop rather than hire a replacement ("we don't have the budget
for that"). He will cut/remove apparatus from the firefighting
fleet ("we must become more 'efficient'") but he won't give up
any of those 'vital' "command" (read...'run around') vehicles to
travel to bldg-200 or go out to joy-ride in.
You know full well that NRL-CBD is still paying NDW for fire protection
and probably paying the SAME as when there was a fire station
still there! White Oak was promised fire protection when it was
turned over to the Air Force and look what they got! One wonders
just how much money some of those other activities like A.P. Hill
is paying (yup. He's got their apparatus maintenance money!) and
what they are getting in return. I'll bet that there was NO cutback
in the amount of money that THOSE activities paid. One wonders
how much he's going to make out from the Walter Reed/Bethesda
consolidation. He'll get money from the Navy AND the Army! What
a gold mine! ......And you guys are getting the shaft!
