Just wondering if any other fire departments are or have been having pay issues. Our department has had problems since Pay Period 18 of 2005. We sometimes get overpaid, underpaid and at least 2 of us have not been paid until the following pp. We have gone to our pathetic AFGE local with no results. After that mess we went to the district union with no help. We went to the AFGE Firefighters Council and the so called lawyer won't help us unless we give her exact amounts that are owed or need to be paid back. We don't even know exactly how much that is anymore. Every 5 pay periods we get a Salary Overpayment deduction for money that isn't owed to the govt. We are the only department in FEMA and they blame the National Finance Center (NFC) and NFC blames FEMA for the problems.

Well, guess I am not the only “bad” firefighter from the “only FEMA FD.” SO the pay issues just keep getting better. 1asshole, how would you propose we go about getting away from AFGE? I have tried everything..failure to represent, voluntary separation, and even using the FLRA. The bottom line is that we need an IAFF local that will write us a letter saying that they will accept us if we are granted separation through FLRA proceedings. I have found no IAFF locals that want to do this yet. Most of them will not even talk to us about it. The National IAFF hangs up when they hear that you are AFGE member due to pending legal action. SO as a last resort to get the pay situation, or lack thereof which ever may be the case, resolved I contacted a law firm. Woodley and McGillivary out of DC. They won the case for IAFF F-33, out in California. I hope they will pick up the case. I guess if all else fails there is always USA Jobs. It sucks that in 2007 A.D. they can’t get a simple computer program fixed… I am just as frustrated as everyone else……

What level HR are you dealing with? Local or at a higher level. In the past I was overpaid by thousands, my local HR keeped messing it up. I had to call the the next level on the food chian too get any help. Good luck I know it can be a disaster. Never spend the extra money, I believe they have seven years to come after you.
