The City of Hagerstown will be conducting a recruitment and testing process for Firefighter with the City of Hagerstown Fire Department. Candidates must have a high school diploma/GED, be at least 18 years old, be eligible for a Maryland Class A driver's license and able to meet the requirements contained in the City Driver Safety Policy. The hiring process will consist of a written exam, physical agility test, oral interviews and a comprehensive background investigation. The current starting salary of $33,800 with attractive benefits package increases to $38,522 after one year of satisfactory employment. The written test will be given on Wednesday, August 22, 2007, at 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. All tests will be given at the Hagerstown Community College, 11400 Robinwood Drive, Science Bldg. Room 117, Hagerstown, MD 21740. Parking available at no charge in Parking Lot K. Interested candidates need to pre-register for taking the test by calling Human Resources at 301-766-4085, M-F between 8:30 a.m.– 4:00 p.m. Seating limited. Bring a valid photo ID. Plan to arrive 15 minutes early…No admittance after the test begins. EOE


As a side note NO EMS transport and not likely in the immediate future. We do respond as first responder on priority calls and to assist with lifting. Several retirements coming in the next two years.

Would Virginia certs carry over?

Not sure, but there have been several guys from PA take the jobs. They require that you get Pro Board certifications within a certain time limit for the position that you hold at the time.

Just curious as to what is the City driver Safety Policy??

to be honest even I have no idea right off hand. Best I can tell you is call and ask. I think it comes down to no major traffic offenses and no or minimal points on your record.
