How would you feel if you had officers in your dept. that thought that all that matered in the dept. was the medical aspect of it. Or the same group that were not certified as drivers or operators of all the apparatus they are incharge of on a scene?...... Sounds like your in a pinch up there.

So I take it your a medical officer that isn't allowed to run fire calls, what kinda of Vol. dept is that? Your not an ambulance corp. so whats the deal?
Your dept. put an SOG in place that says your "just" a medical officer and can't run on fire calls. Are you certified in fire/rescue? Down along the shore we have non medical officers that run scenes and we all work together to benefitt the civilians.

What would happen to a member/officer at a scene, disregarded or bypass a more senior ranked officer ? They would toss his ass out the door, permanately. FF in training has been given the opportunity to express his veiw points to the membership for their say. Most departments wouldnt grant him that opportunity. 16 has. 16 has a command structure of officers put in place by the membership. Each officer has been given specific duties and responsibilites be it EMS, fire, or rescue. It does not say anywheres that an officer is EMS only, or fire/rescue only, but gives the officer a responsibility in a given area. Emergencies dictate a command structure be implimented. That command structure will be follow at all times and respect of the officers within that structure is expected. Anything less than that, that person/officer will be shown the door.

Yes you are correct and a command structure needs to be inplace. Weather your/my membership agrees to that structure is erelavant at this point. The officers are in place and have to be shown the same respect that I would want.....And yes LTDad your right if the events accured like you said then that LT would not only not be an officer in my dept. any longer but removed from the dept. altogether. If officers don't show repect toward each other then how is the membership going to respect the ones that are their leaders....... Nice pix expresshockey.

It does involve me..I have to work with the chief of the department. Right now, I have a great working relationship with our chief...he knows that if he steps on my toes, I'm jumping on the radio at our next scene and requesting LifeStar per the president.
