Ran across drawings for a Pumper and 100' Aerial labeled Fort Meade, MD on the Seagrave website - Is that a done deal?

Red Cat,
That is true the Seagraves will be delivered some time in the end of October 2007 and we are also getting a Pierce Pumper this is a glider from the ARFF vehicle we had.

A.Arnold Jr., The department does not have an official web site but the Local Union here does. I am not sure what you are looking for but you can check their site out.

What are the plans for the old apparatus?
They will be turned in and placed at another base that has a low call volume.

Thanks for the info - So you won't get to keep TK-2 as a reserve?
I've been around the Army long enough to know they don't get rid of anything that can still be used. Other than the Truck, which pieces are being replaced?

We tried to keep Truck 2 as our reserve, but the Army said no. Engine 12 will be replaced which moves Engine 13 to our reserve engine.

Does this mean the Ford is gone? If so, I will miss seeing that thing run around the west side of the county.

Yes, the Ford will be going bye bye when the new apparatus goes in service. the new Eng and Tk are at 45 right now but will be sent out soon to get tools mounted on them. After all the training is done and the tools get mounted on them then they will go in service. I'm not sure exactly when that will be.

Thanks goes out to the UNION for getting a special appropriation from Congress to purchase these units. The IAFF sure has their stuff together!

I have to agree with Gr8ful_Mbr the union did alot of begging and pleading with local senators to get money added to the funding bill. For that, I am greatful. Once we (the department) heard the money was approved Local Pres, Local VP, Deputy Chief & Training Chief went to work on the paperwork side of the house to complete the justification. Once that was approved a large part of the department helped with the specification review. I guess the easy way to say this is the whole department played a very important roll in the but the Local unoin did get the ball rolling after the installation shot down the request for funding of new apparatus.

Are they replacing an engine and a truck? I read somewhere they were going to use the new one as a truck?
BTW aboard? -- Was there a gangplank or did they use the regular road?

Our current "truck" is a Pierce quint. We run it as a "truck". The new Seagrave ladder is also a quint and will replace the "truck". And of course the new Seagrave engine will replace the oldest engine in our fleet which is the 1984 Ford/E-One, which we currently run as a reserve. When the new Seagrave goes into service, one of the older rigs will be placed in reserve status.
We also have our 1987 Amertek ARFF rig being glider kit rebuilt by Pierce. This will also be a first line piece and replace one of the other engines.
