What are the new standards on stripping in regards to the rear of the apparatus and the inside of the doors.

Currently, the 2003 edition calls for 90 square inches of reflective on the inside of the doors. No change in the 2008 edition. The 2008 edition of 1901 (which will take effect late spring/early summer 2008) will call for at least 50% of the rear of the apparatus to be covered in red/yellow chevron striping pointing in the upward position.
Seagrave has already started making thier customers sign a waiver if thier rigs leave the factory without the chevron striping.
Oh goody!!!!!! Now fire apparatus can look like garbage trucks
or state roads trucks! Gotta love that 'euro' stuff! Why can't
we just be ourselves? Don't we have enough lights, scotchlite,
fancy contasting paint jobs, and other stuff? Why can't
AMERICAN fire apparatus look AMERICAN?! Next thing is an NFPA
'standard' requiring dash boards and pump panels to be BILINGUAL!
Como esta?
Por quoi?
Vat?

For real, I mean first they wanted us to go away from 3/4 boots, then they wanted us to wear full SCBA. Really when will the goverment quit trying to make our jobs safer. What are they thinking.

OK, Odie! Maybe we should get THESE! (NOT Photoshopped!)
NFPA seems to want to go 'euro' and be all 'global' so maybe
THIS would be the NEW WAVE in the US fire service?
That's right! It's got a D/O cab in BOTH ends! Steering and all!
Even safer! Now D/Os don't have to back apparatus up! Good
for that 'ghetto fiya fytin' where you can make a quick exit if
the 'caps start poppin'.

Actually, when I lived in Germany I had seen those. IVECO also makes an engine that has a jack that drops down from the middle of the apparatus, picks all six wheels up off the ground then rotates the engine 180 degrease. (I have photos, I'll post later)These pieces are designed for the Alps regions of Europe where the tunnels are several miles long. Being able to spin the apparatus, or walking to the "back" where there is another cab is alot better than tring to back a piece out of one of those tunnels.
