Just Wanted To Give A Little Background On The Situation I Am In.
First And What I Believe Is The Most Important Issue At Hand I Am A Non-veteran Temporary Status Firefighter At A Va Med Center (do Not Wish To Specify At This Time) Our Department Is In The Hiring Process For 6 Full Time Permanent Firefighter Hazmat Techs

I Was Originally Told That The Chief Could Request Names To Be Sent From The Deu Of Which One Should Be Mine I Now Hear That This Is Not Possible And Never Was

Which In Turn Leaves Me With The What Do I Do Now Problem I Am In

I Really Like The Job And The Place Where I Work If Anyone Can Give Me Some Pointers That May Help To Make Me More Appealing Or Just Give Me The Upper Hand I Would Be Eternally Greatful

Simply re-apply for your own job! Specify that you are only interested in a permanent placement position and list all your quals in your resume. Curious...I wonder why the Chief wouldn't merely make you permanent without further announcement as this is a normal civil service procedure in the hiring process.

from what i was told the chief isnt permitted to just make me permanent
i have reapplied but was also told to expect a lot of veterans to apply which would virtually make me inelligible

BULLSHIT. Your Chief can hire from within without going to the outside. If I remember correctly, the only thing he is bound by, is whether or not there is anyone on the stopper list for that particular facility. I started out as a GS-04 Temp FF at a Naval Facility that is now long since gone. I was lucky enough to get transferred to another Naval Facility as a GS-05 TERM FF. I was there for just about a year, when the Chief came in the kitchen one day and looked right at me and said "Hey I put you in for permanent status and they just called me and approved. You need to go over to personnel next shift and sign the paperwork and get your SF-50.

Good thing, too because 6 months later 11 of us got RIF'd.

I went through something similiar to this a few years ago. My chief had the same problem trying to get us (there was 8 of us hired as terms) switched to career conditional, HR flat out told us we could not be just switched over to career without reapplying
