Hello,
My advice to you in regards to enlisting is this; do not limit your self to only looking at one service. Each branch has its own traditions and mission and some do certain things better than others. I am not going to question your motivations, the fact that you are looking to enlist says quite a bit about you. On the other hand, if you are looking to the military for a career and/or training in crash-fire-rescue, you will not find better initial training. The 312th TRS (Training Squadron) at Goodfellow AFB, in San Angelo, Texas runs a great schoolhouse. I spent a little over 6 years in the Air Force and I was blessed enough to get to go to Goodfellow on more than one occasion.
For the most part, it is hard to find too many active duty Army firefighter slots out there... they are there, just be weary of the recruiters that may tell you they are not there. The US Marine Corps knows how to do crash... that is what they do. My crash (block 6) instructors were Marines and I really cannot think of having it any other way... I think as far as a "crash" service goes, Marines are the way to go... and as crash crew you can get to CBIRF, if that is something you might be into. The Air Force is a great alternative as well, more and more they are growing into a full service entity. You could find yourself on the flight line or structural station responding to smells and bells or an in-flight, or some type of tech rescue call along with who knows what else, on top of dispatching and inspections...
I have a couple friends who are DC's in the Navy... they like what they do, they like the travel... they also say that being at sea is the hardest part about it as well.
Sorry about the length but I hope this helps.

Thanks alot man, that helped alot. i talked to the army a few days ago and he said the same thing, that there are slots but they are hard to find or get. my dad was in the navy and he loved it so i think thats the way im gonna go. hopefully i can set up an interview with a recruiter this week. something that i guess im confused about is, isnt crash fire rescue all firefighting? or are they two seperate branches of fire rescue?
