Yes it is being sent back to pierce and will be replaced with a glider kit the only thing that will be used from the old one is the engine and the transmission. Both of those items will be completley rebuilt. Truck 1232 will follow around March to have the same thing done to it

oh i see now so pretty much pierce is taking a brand new truck, removing the engine and tranny, rebuilding the engine and tranny out of 1231, and installing them in the new 1231. Dose that really make sense?
Question: Whats the price difference from a new truck and this glider kit? I work at ATC so i know all the stupid rules associated with the goverment and aquiring replacment vehicles is one of the most screwed up ones! Thanks

trizuck831, Trucks 1231 and 1232 are both 1991 models, making them both over 15 years old....

I thought a glider only kept the aerial and hydraulics related, such as outriggers. Everything else was brand new?!

First off i never said anything about 1231 and 1232 being new trucks see if you can understand this

NEW TRUCK - ENGINE AND TRANNY = PART # 1
1231 - ENGINE AND TRANNY = PART # 2
PART #2 + REBUILD = PART #3
PART # 3 + PART #1 = NEW 1231

GOT IT?

No, I dont "Got it." Why dont YOU "get it" and learn to speak and write proper english, and then maybe you would have been able to communicate your thoughts in a clear, concise manner. Go back and re-read your original post, particularly the sentence which I outlined in red; it can be interpreted that you thought the current 1231 and 1232 were new trucks. In fact, I talked to two different people today who also thought the very same thing.

GOT IT?

(I doubt it. Your post is so full of grammatical errors and misspellings that what I just wrote probably went over your head.)

From the Freightliner Trucks website;

What is a Glider Kit?

A glider kit is basically a new truck without an engine, transmission or rear axles. You do have the option of ordering a remanufactured engine in a Detroit, Caterpillar or Cummins configuration. A glider kit comes with a Title for the year you are buying your glider kit even though you are using some of your old components. The Freightliner Glider Kit is the most complete kit on the market because it includes a spare parts box which includes all your plumbing, suspension, air intake, brakes valve assemblies and suspension parts if ordered that way.
