The following information has been compiled from questions most frequently asked by prospective applicants. I hope this will provide you with some basic knowledge about Evendale Fire Department, which is one of the finest in the State of placeStateOhio.
Prior to becoming a member, each applicant must meet certain requirements established by the placePlaceTypeVillage of PlaceNameEvendale. You will be subjected to a rigorous application process that will require several days to complete. Only those able to successfully meet these requirements will be accepted.
This process is taken due to the fact that after a member is appointed many hours of training are required, which represents a sizeable investment in time and money. The department must make every effort to determine that each applicant is able to meet the demands of fire, emergency medical service and other related work before this investment is made.
All applicants must meet the following criteria prior to being considered:
1. Must reside within a reasonable distance of the Evendale Fire Station within one (1) year of appointment.
2. Must be 21 years of age at time of appointment.
3. Shall have no criminal record.
4. Must be of good character.
5. Must possess, or be eligible for a valid Ohio Drivers License at time of appointment.
6. Must have a minimum high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
7. Must possess Ohio Paramedic Certification or be a current paramedic student at time of appointment, within 6 months of class completion.
If you meet these basic requirements, you may submit an application. PROOF OF State OHIO PARAMEDIC CERTIFICATION, OR VALIDATION FROM PlaceNameplace PARAMEDIC PlaceType SCHOOL MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE APPLICATION. In order to prevent unnecessary delays, be sure to answer all questions on the application. It is especially important that you furnish the department with complete, correct names and addresses where requested on the application. AN INCOMPLETE APPLICATION WILL BE SUBJECT TO REJECTION.
Application deadline is February 1, 2008 at 1600 hours.
Your application may be processed to include any or all of the following:
1. Written examination (Reference materials: “IFSTA Essentials of Firefighting, 4th Edition” and “Brady Prentice Hall Pre-hospital Emergency Care, 10th Edition”)
2. Physical Ability Test: International Fire Chiefs’ Assoc. & the International Assoc. of Firefighters Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT). An 8 week orientation/training period will be provided to prepare for the CPAT.
3. Reference check
4. Psychological testing
5. Internal interview
6. Final interview with members of the Evendale Hiring Committee
The most successful applicants that complete the above steps may be scheduled for an interview with at least one (1) chief officer and an investigating committee. If any of the above steps are incomplete, you will be subject to elimination and no further process will be taken. The successful application will be forwarded to the fire chief with recommendations for disposition, which could be:
1. Approval or rejection by the fire chief upon recommendation of the interviewing committee.
2. Placed on hold for future reference.
3. After an offer of employment is made, a personal background check, including local, state, federal and military, if applicable, will be conducted.
4. After an offer of employment is made, the applicant must successfully pass a physical examination and a physical assessment.
5. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of paramedic school and the 240 hours firefighters course, if applicable.
All necessary equipment is provided by the department. All members are required to comply with the necessary functions and activities to achieve the fire department mission, as defined by the Evendale Fire Department's Operational Guidelines.
