I currently reside in cold, snowy Johnstown, PA. But am hoping to hear soon from Okaloosa County 911 as to a job I applied for. My sis is stationed in FWB, so I will be moving there to start.
I have been a dispatcher with our county for 7 years doing fire, ems, 4 different police frequencies and a medical helicopter out of a local hospital (2 bases). We dispatch 49 fire depts (all VFD with 1 paid professional dept), 26 ems stations (9 are VFD based), 36 part- and full-time police departments. We have 2 call-take only positions, 7 call-take and dispatch positions and one supervisor position. We work with a max of 8 and a min of 4 on the floor varying on the time of day and rotate on platoons with 12-hour shifts, daylight or night turn.
At this time I have been dating a Fire Chief of a VFD for 9 years, but he doesn't want to move with me.
Just wanted to know how things go in Okaloosa. One thing I did notice is our watchdesk thread in Cambria County, PA gets a lot more activity.
Can't wait to get to Fl.

Thanks for the welcome. I think I would be north and west of you on the Emerald Coast. I just got the email today talking about testing and interviews. I went through this before and did most of it by internet and faxing, so I'm hoping things go well!!

Well, I start April 29th. I'm leaving with my stuff on Saturday and will come back over the summer to gather the kids, cats and everything else when I get a house.
Can't wait to get there!!!

I think you'll find things to be a bit different in Shalimar. I lived there for 3 years and was an A/C in the career department. You'll find that the people are nice, but the county's cut in two. Career on the south end and volunteer on the north end. Very slow to move forward into teh 21st century with lack of funding. None of the residents wants to see their taxes rolled up, so manning is much lower thanit should be.

Enjoy it.
