How do they choose which letters go into the book and which to leave out? seems like they would want to publish everyones "good news" letters but ah, yes, you can't have pissed them off, ever.

Congratulations to all those in the book - they deserve the recognition they got and probably much more. And good job also to all those who got thank you letters from citizens but the department didn't publish them. Could it be they don't want anyone to know about them?

Ok, all Kool-Aid (TM) aside, I think it's a good idea to post these letters. This kind of public goodwill needs to be cultivated, conserved, and spent when we need it. It's how we get things like the 5th man, or keeping a company open, or what have you.

I was a little disappointed that the cover letter mentioned SAVU, EMS Path Forward, Hydrants, and LGBT Liaison, but nothing about Firefighting or Homeland Security issues. Not much point in having any of the 4 mentioned issues if there's no Fire Department to relate them to.

For a good laugh, read, pp 35 & 56. To see a prime example of "when all else fails, call the fire department", read p 60.

And not one single letter from E30's clientel. Wow. Remarkable...

On a side note, it was nice to see that two of the letters included complaints on OUC. But then again, they must have been two of the eight that OUC actually self-justified as an actually complaint. I wish the FD could handle all complaints from jump and throw out 90% of them just like OUC does.

It's funny but the people who have called 911 once in they're life (ie. upper NW'ers) can type a nice letter, but the abusers and frequent fliers don't give a sh!t. Once again no love from the citizens East of the Anacostia and ( the other busy companies). The one "good news" for Engine 10, the officer was put on charges and faces a suspension, because they were in Qtrs., the call was their 1st due, and they went "undispatched". I wish the people who typed the letter of gratitude to the men of E-10 knew that he was facing disciplinary actions. Thanks for another "Good Laugh".

Some of the companies mentioned have more "Good News letters" than "calls actually run".
