So what you are saying (by commenting on the spending going on) is that the program worked? Afterall, the intent was to get people to see the money in their accounts and then spend it.

Since one cannot really say what will occur next yr when the NEXT administration takes office. this is just a hunch..something smells,as the past teaches us that NOTHING IS FREE...in time its collected back by some other form...or denial...

the issue with the POOR is simple.. the GOV thru taxes has EIC, which for those LOW INCOME or those with KIDS under a set income recieve a refund reguardless IF any TAX is owed...or even paid in from W-2 income..for those on disability your income is free from tax unless u are above 32K a yr..as invested return as intrest or dividend...other wise up to about 26-27K u can recieve a refund on a sliding scale...the bottom gets a minumum of what ever as does the very top..the middle can get a nice chunk of change..as number of kids they have.. this could be a way to say "we already GAVE U some money with your tax return.. so we will reduce u next yr to balance it out.. see pt.. its possible..those above that i cannot say what could occur...

this program is like the INCOME forgiveness that the Comm of Penna has on their income tax forms..that is a %-age scale...as such..

Gov Rendell said earlier this yr there would be NO such help like the FED is doing....at least not in 2008....

As for what saw at above stores, it was a higher crowd seen with in on a Saturday, like would IF a storm was pending..there was over cast all day.. rain was due.. but we visit Walmart weekly and this today was more then noted in past weeks...there as well as the GIANT store we visited.. was busy...sure Sat is usually busy..but was more today then noted time frame in past weeks...

as noted people will chose what to do with their checks as noted walmart would cash them for free...of course they want your business.....every one wants your business.. NOW..some stores were offering a bonus of % more of value to sell...like if u got the $1200 and came and wanted to buy those funds would be worth 10-15 or 20% more...but u had to spend it all there...

Hell "SCREWED" will be more like for next year's taxes!!! (IRS to the Tax Payer, "Please bend over & grab your ankles, oh yes, sorry we the IRS will not be giving any free reach arounds during this screw session Thank you for your cooperation")

I went to 3 different Walmart Stores in the NW Pa area today & it was nothing but sheer friggen madness in all 3 of them! While visiting one of the stores where a friend works, I asked her if Walmart was giving anything away free today, She politely answered no & asked if I knew what was going on by chance. Some lady with 3 kids in tow turned around & told us that it was the Tax free money everyone was spending today. At the same time we both turned & simply said "Yea right free money from the Goverment" & laughed about it. Damn this lady got pissed!! She went to the store mgr & complained.

Nothing happened to my friend for our comment, the mgr even got a laugh from it also. I almost thought it was Christmas season again, with all the mad hatters shopping.

Here's something you'll enjoy, my ss # was in the first round 0-20 and I still havent received a dime! Thats right nothing and it is owed to me $600 taxes were done and turned in a week and a half before the due date and I even had to pay the rotten bastards $350 while only making $35,000. I don't know if its delayed because my taxes were filed so close to the deadline or what but I'm becoming aggravated that I haven't received my tax free eh hem eh hem cough money yet....I'm beginning to wonder if I should check with my bank or the IRS first

thats how the IRS works, first in 'maybe first out'..as such i suspect those filed prior to end of Feb would be processed like our famous Insurance Cos do.. when a claim comes in it goes on the BOTTOM of the pile EVERY TIME and they peel and process from the TOP.. patience..

this excerp is from the conf letter recieved from the irs site i visited to see when and if the money was coming... please note my above warning w concurence by our friendly moderator..\

Helpful Information:

"You should keep a copy of the IRS notice you received listing the amount of your payment. In the event you do qualify for the full amount next year, you will need to have the notice as a record of the amount you previously received."

If any knows what a form 1099.....that is 'unearned (not earned) income' ..so that only means u made something NOT W-2..intrest, dividends, and other... most cases its that way....line 7 or other is where it goes as to which form 1040 u used or filed..

pensions usualy are one, your rent rebate could be one..

they have a letter on the rear like DIV INT ,R or G which is helpful as to know..

My pension moved from one line to another this yr as reached the magic age..but its still reportable.. as a 1099R...

so it could bump u up a notch as income wise...the amt u recieved..another example is those with Social Security with a large outside income source.. if u are close to the magic 33K (about) u will begin to pay back SSA..as to how far over u go...also it could effect LLEAP filing for next yr as close to that limit,or food stamps, or other gratis programs based on icome for yr.. this is all part of the process to (censored) with us down the road..

Maybe the word "LOAN" I should change to ADVANCE..as this could be how its gona land upon us as next yr.. If it is it could help some as well as hurt...

a loan would require intrest to be paid over time or at the end of term..that too is a wonder...

I usually stay in the background here but just had to comment. It is my understanding that if you had to pay income taxes this year, your check will be mailed to you. That's what they are telling us to say to the customers at work. Also if you have any judgements to state, child support, school loans; they will take it first and if there is any left over they will gladly "give" it to you.

We got ours yesterday, sadly to say that with the husband having to have surgery, we will not be doing what we wanted with it.

Grumpier, I also had to comment that you are correct in saying that the 1099 is unearned income. What you failed to mention is that 1099 MISC is earned income for which you did not pay taxes on.

sorry cant remember all the 1099 codes.just add them all up line 32 final prior when asked...then play w what is owed post what u paid in..the rest is well...pay it or get what ever back as over paid..from exemptional deductions and std ded or itemize....

just remmeber health issues are 7.5% AGI..if u have that as such..drugs,health ins prems, deductable costs, all add up, but can it work for u..in the end...our example is our health ins costs more then what we show as line 7 income..as such...cant do it..the SSDI income carrys the whole ball game..and pension...thus as i said EIC is our only yearly salvation..as such next yr adding the rebate check will help MAYBE..did this yr.....

donations are 2% and be prepared to support data used...if outlandish...most cases not worth effort..same w the tax section if home ownership is your thing...fun fun fun....

The IRS stated that there was two seperate systems processing these so called ADVANCE checks to the public, the old and the new which will replace old in time... as such..I believe it really did not matter if U e-filed or not.

Every week's send out was as it was...in some cases DD or mailed..but i will say this.. "its gov work...what do u expect!!!"..

I personally doubt will do much for the short term as desired by all...every one will have an oppinion as to what it will be used for how its used and why they (retailers) did not get any of it as well...but again from this forums reports.. some places did get to see an increase in sales..

from the commerical JG WENTWORTH.....(exactly)...

ironic: in the sunday paper...for MOM day it was quoted that the worst gifts mom desired was replaced applicances (small). however I HAD to replace one of ours 3 weeks ago..does that count as making my wife MAD ?.....oh well..
