An Introduction to User Reputation
User Reputation in its simplest form is a ranking of your user's benefit to your forum. Its basis comes from the opinions of all of your forum users that choose take part in it.

Users gain and lose reputation based on how their posts are scored by other forum participants. Users with the ability to affect reputation, will either give or take aways points by approving or disapproving with a post's content.

As users, gain and lose reputation, they are associated with a moniker that describes their current level.

You may add to a reputation by clicking on the scales in the top right of the post.

HAVE FUN! :D

It appears that you can rate specific posts with this feature, and leave a comment for the poster.

So, what are the "status levels" of this reputation ranking? Is being labeled an "unknown quantity at this point" a good thing? As opposed to "just learning to layout", which is what it was before? Just concerned whether myself and a number of my "friends" on here are being sabotaged or complimented.

Ok, if you post a reputation/comment about someone: Do they have any access or knowledge it?

Phantom

Yes the can review the comments about them by going to their user control panel, check yours now.

I see where it says somebody has left a reputation comment about me, but it doesn't say who. I've been "demoted" back to normal, but have more points than before. Oh well....at least it still says positive things (not that it shouldn't...LOL)

What's it mean when the square turns from green to blue?

NorthSTAR

It means the square passed out from intoxication (green), and is now hypoxic (blue) from aspirating...

Sounds reasonable to me, if I can figure it out I'll let you know.

how many points is good...is there a certain amount of points when your reputation changes?

How are points calculated and what does the color box to the left of the comment mean? IS there a way to tell whether the comment was approving or disapproving?

from my taking on comments and reps...i think the green blocks are good, gray and red arent...and the more points u recieve the better ur comment on ur green block is and i believe when u recieve so many points and they are good u get more green blocks, because ive seen a few people with 2 green blocks already...move ur cursor and let it sit over the colored block either in ur profile or from one of ur posts...just learned to lay out and made their first fire are good comments...if u ever noticed someone with a gray or red block it says something like so and so should quit posting that is because so many people gave them negative reps and their points fell below a certain amount lol...hope this makes some sense!

sorry i don`t understand who will say what is good and what isn`t when there is a double standard here.............i get told by a mod that if my comments isn`t fire related he will delete it....but as everyone on here sees how many threads have not one damn thing to do with the fire service........my personal opinion make one set of rules and stick by them ....don`t change rules because someone just don`t like someone........my opinion......

Phantom

Anyone can give their opinion on a reputation, so there is no double standard with that. Its your peers opinion of you.

Phantom,

I'm a red dot myself, so obviously I sort of fit in right there with Medic5... However, I do not agree with you. It seems to me that the reputation thing is just another way for others to play the childish games.
One thing, in particular, that bugs me about the reputation deal is that it is anonymous. Some of us on here have gotten such reviews as "You're such a jerk" and it's not signed. I just don't think that it is fair. if we sign our names to the posts (I mean our sns), why cant we sign the names to the reputation points?
Another point is that it seems to me that not many understand the meaning of the reputation option. It seems to me that some of us use it just becuse we disagree with someone's point of view. It shouldn't be that way. If you and I argue and you say that per se a Quint is an essential piece of apparatus and I disagree with you. Well, the fact that I do not agree with you should not mean that I should automatically downgrade your reputation.

I do not feel that my "image" on the desk should be affected by someone who personally disagrees with a point that I am attempting to make.

Agree or disagree?

A reputation of -1 (1 bad comment) will get you a red box. A further addition of a good comment will get you a gray box (0). +1 reputation will get you a green box

I understand your point of view, but why does it bother you so much? Who cares what these people think of you. They are nothing, but screen names.
I've had my fair share of both good and bad reputations and I think it's funny. I personally think it's the wimp's way out to send an unsigned bad reputation instead of replying on the threads.

i don't get how 1 good comment can give you a great # of good points then the nest is fewer...then a grey one gives you 0 and then a red one will take away more than the green ones gave u

the system for rep points isn't consistant!

OH ABSOLUTELY! I am not making a big deal out of it, because in the end, the reputation doesn't mean much- as you can see, I am still posting.

And you're completely right about the no name thing! But then I always sign my name to the reputations... just a thing of courtesy.

By the way- what bugs me is that some people just get too out of control when it comes to the rep points.

As for somebody else's point on inconsistency- have to agree with you. I had 32 negative comments (oh no! I know) and then someone gave me a thumbs up... all of the sudden I was a gray box. Now I have 1 negative comment and all of the sudden I am red

I think you mean peer. I hope you mean peer. Peer is a socially(?) equal counterpart. A friend, acquaintance, coworker. The word itself has become so coloquial, overused and slangish (cliche'), though, that the bushman in deepest darkest South Pacific Islands is your peer.

I explained this to you last week, remember, go to user cp and scroll down.
There were some just green dots and some with comments?
The saying comes up when you put your mouse in the little green dot across from your screen name.
To give rep points you click on the scales at the top of the post, and a reputation box will come up, you can just give the points, or you can also leave a comment.
Any of this ring any bells hon?

Well, the fact that I do not agree with you should not mean that I should automatically downgrade your reputation. Oh Veritas - you'd have to be a "real" Firefighter to participate in that type of arguement. ;)

Phantom - how do you end up with bad rep points from a thread that's been deleted? Or this is something that is not reset once it's there? The comment has been deleted - all I can tell is what thread it was from - and I no longer see that thread. Not concerned...more curious as to how you have this set up. Thanks! :)

Good God Minerst,

you're like a bad itch that just wont go away!!!

"PER SE" was the comment. Stop hanging on to every word, it doesnt make you look smarter.

And Quints... it's a half-assed piece of apparatus that doesnt carry all of the tools always needed and requires the "riders" to be able to operate all sorts of other apparatus... and come on when have u seen an engine guy being able to operate i dont know, a ladder. but thats a whole another thread

Lighten up Veritas - no wonder you've had so many negative points. Did you not see the "wink" at the end of the sentence???

And I'm sure all of the "real" firefighters on here appreciate your sentiment that we don't know what we are doing - guess you've never heard the term "cross-trained"??? Oh that's right - you're not actually IN the fire service are you??? What are you??? EMS Once...Now EMS Nothing/I Watch the Ding-Dings from my living room window???

Get a life little girl...this question was not directed to you.

Lets see,

The reputation is a games, sorry if you don't like it but it is consisitant with the site.

As gain reputation points you also gain reputation power so that the comments you give someone are worth more or less than someone else's opinion.

Curretnly the deleteed threads count, just as they do for you post count.

Oh man, what do I do to make you go away, LITTLE GIRL?

I bet half of the negative points came from you too... You gotta lighten up a little! I know you love me, but man, we're a little OCD here, arent we?

Ive never said that you weren't cross trained... but then, oh, if you only knew what a quint was. But it's alright, I dont expect much from shirt bunny.

Hey, times have changed little girl, how do you know where I stand at? That's right you can't see that far from the state of Alabama.

If you would like to call me out and have a go around about who knows more about the fire service..go right ahead. I'm sure myself and the rest of the ones who read the "Uncensored Topics" forum would love to see just how much you really think you know. But this is not the forum to do that in - please start another post elsewhere.

As far as your negative points - you are not worth the effort. You brought that on yourself with your attitude.

Your standing?? You have made it clear to everyone that you were EMS only and are now NO LONGER in the service because you got yourself pregnant. It's not exactly a big secret - unless you were lying about that.

Finally - what the hell is a "shirt bunny"????

My apologies to you Phantom for going off track in this topic.

Green obviously means they agree and it raises your points.
Red is that they disagree and it subtracts your points, but what is the point of blue? It doesn't seem to change anything. Just asking out of curiousity because I just got a blue one tonight from a post I wrote on this thread.
No name signed of course....

Scott, If you think about it, yes maybe it is kind of High Schoolish, but also, when ever you take a class, where at the end of the class you are handed an Eval Sheet on the Course & Instructor's performance & knowledge, same rule applies here also. Use the Reps to either give good or bad, depending on your view the post. sorry i know this post is old but as i was looking through it and i couldn`t believe my eyes........reputation power?....and your comments are worth more or less than someone eles opinion?........i can`t believe this.....this is a firefighter forum and it is being made into a high school....and people say i am messed up???????

first off i disagree with you and this is why......everyones opinion matters there is none better or worse......second an evaluation sheet after a class is way different from a forum....reason being you evaluate the course materials and instructor.....to give ways of maybe how the course could be better .....this is a forum ....to post opinions.....all this rep shit does is piss people off who say it doesn`t matter to them.....so like i said i disagree with you and i believe that it is a joke to do the rep points
