Should there be a minimum standard of training for any firefighter before they are allowed to operate on a fire ground? And what should that standard be?

If you think that its FF1, then justify your answer.

I think that there should be a minimum standard for the fire ground. Firefighter 1 training I think limits you to exterior attack position and assisting in the warm and cold zones as apposed to conducting interior attack and operations in the hot zone. Firefighter 1 students learn just enough to get them through the final test and evolutions of the course, and in my opinion don't make members qualified to operate in situations where others are essentially placing their lives in your hands. You should be a sponge post certification as you are just entering in to the field.

The minimum I would like to see adopted nationally would be FF1, FF2, Rescue and Survival, and Fireground Operations, maybe combining a few classes at a time to keep it managable. This would be in my opinion an acceptable level for a member to be effective during the fire and capable of being utilized where they may be needed.
