View Full Version : Disappearing posts?

In the past couple of days, three posts have been made in the Orange County, NY forum, and within a matter of hours, all of them have vanished. There was nothing in any of them that would warrant them being deleted, that I know of.

One was an update of the "Run Log" with the previous night's fire, another was an update of the "New Delivery" thread. Both gone, within hours. Late last night, I re-posted the New Delivery update, and added another thread about our upcoming muster. Now, those are both gone, and the aforementioned two posts from the previous day have suddenly re-appeared, intact.

Is this happening in other areas? What's going on here?

I haven't noticed anything, Granted I haven't been logged in much over the past few days. FYI: Only post i deleted in the past week was the one for the FOOLS Leather Helmet Raffle. As it was already posted in the FOOLS section. Maybe the forums are acting a little wonky again. I'll check it out and see what's up.

Okay, I don't know what's going on. But i'll make sure someone who does looks into this.

Generally when threads are removed by myself, or others they're 'soft' deleted. which means, that while the thread disappears from your point of view, it's still accessible and viewable by the assigned section moderators or super moderators/admins(which deal with the forum wide issues) for further action, like undeleting, and whatnot. As near i can tell, nothing was deleted by myself, Taskforce or Phantom.

There was a similar issue on another forum i frequent a few years back. The only advice I can give you would be to repost and advise if it happens again. It could be a forum issue.

Long story short?(Too late!) Not my fault! This time... :P

Thanks for the reply/ies. The muster thread has been re-posted. If the original shows up again, one can be deleted.

Something very funny going on...
Posts that I saw when I logged on from work aren't here now, but there are posts here that weren't visible from the work computer...

Almost like there are two different versions of the site running..

I think there might be some hosting or DNS issues.. Has the board changed servers recently?

Attention Admins -

www.thewatchdesk.com appears to be pointing to a different server(209.9.228.35) than thewatchdesk.com (209.9.228.40)

I see messages posted on "thewatchesk.com" that do not appear on "www.thewatchdesk.com".

I am not sure what you two are talking about, and I know that once I start I probably lose you, but a check of the DNS A records shows the IP address of 206.9.228.40. The www part of the thewatchdesk.com is not a dns issue, but a apache webserver issue.
To answer the next question, the site is currently undergoing a redesign, There will be two other main areas that will be added. Also a web hosting company change will be taking place.

I have had posts in the Maryland forum disappear as well, I inquired of Phantom to see if he had deleted them but he said he had not. If you are finding the site showing up at two diff ip addresses that does indicate that two out of synch versions of the site are running.

I contacted you 3 or so weeks ago regarding my question. I had chastised several posters for trying to trash up the complimentary thread about Lutherville's new rescue squad and then my posts and much of the trash turned up missing. This was fine, but, mysterious.

Regs1, that may be what the DNS A records were telling you, but "in the wild" the two addresses (with and without www) were definitely resolving to different ip addresses, one to .40 and one to .35 They are both now resolving to .40 from here.

Just wanted to call your attention to the problem, and the Main thing is that it looks like it's now fixed...

The anomolies, gremlins, glitches, or what have you seem to still be continuing. Just recieved a PM about the the Gas Prices thread appaerring in other sections of the board, along within the kitchen sink section.

Someone better feed them Gremlins so they dont chew up the whole board. :Dthe server was undergoing an upgrade over the weekend... probably caused the anomolies..

Still flip-flopping every now and again. Every few visits, I get a version that does not include the last 3-4 posts in our area, and one that has been "stickied" appears as not so in the other version. Very strange, indeed.
