We are hearing news everyday now about cash strapped governments laying off Firefighters, closing stations part time or even 24/7, and this is only the beginning. 2010's budget projections are even worse than 2009's. So I have a solution. Insurance companies are behind all the new training regs and certification requirements for fire departments, so obviously they have some political power. So we have to get them behind us to force the authorities to fund public safety before they fund things like workers to tend the grass in public parks etc. History has shown that when the economy sours, urban areas tend to decline, and the number of working fires tend to go up...they need the FD even more when the economy fails.

Most of the occupied structures that burn are insured. When we are faced with limited manpower on scene, simply decline to do an interior attack due to safety reasons. Laws and regs are telling us we have to have minimum manning in many places, so USE that law. Once we've allowed a bunch of buildings to burn that could have been saved with proper manning, the insurance companies will start to complain to the powers that be that they are taking a hit finanically and it will mean that campaign donations will be way down next election, things might change.

DO NOT RISK YOUR LIFE in fires that pose no life risk. Simply obey the minimum manning laws and decide to stay outside when no life hazard exsists. Let it burn, they will learn.
