Hopefully I will be offered a position with the DCFD shortly as a firefighter and I am wondering about some of the salary/benefits. I have tried navigating the DCOP site but I can't tell exactly what does/doesn't apply to the FD. If anyone can help me with some of these questions or point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.
What is the salary for an entry-level firefighter? The DCOP table says $37,946 but I had heard there was an increase and I'm not sure if it is reflected in that table. Also, what if any are the increases in salary for a firefighter/paramedic?
How many days of leave do you get (annual, sick, and otherwise?)
How is the health insurance(s)?
What is the retirement?
I'm currently a career FF elsewhere and am trying to compare the benefits - though I'm sure I'd probably take the position anyway. If anyone is able to comment on how they feel about DC's benefits, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
