Does anyone know if they are ever going to go 48/72?

When Will APG go 48- 72?
Great Question!
The only way that you’ll see this is if the union pulls together.
Right now there are too many old timer’s that are set in their ways and they’re afraid of change.
You might see it if.
The Chief retires and the directorate of DES choices to. The chief now is against it.
If the DOD fire service regionalizes under one director and he decides to.

hey i am a Firefighter/Medic at Fort Belvoir and we went to the 48/72 a little over a year ago,,,yes we had our far share of Old Timers that were against it but after they realized that they would have 1-2 days more off they fell in love with it. I heard through the grapevine that it might be made to where all DoD Fire dept. will have to go to this shift. If you do go with it get a hold of our union we had issues with taking annual leave and sick leave issues as well. Hope it works out.

My dept went to this schedule the beginning of this year. Your Chief evidently does not have the knowledge of the system to not like it. From a management stand point the only down side that has been found is the issues regarding mandatory on shift training which because of the issues of folks having 3 straight days off causes some time issues. But realistically we have found that its just like dealing with the RSO person being off for the most part.
Other than that the sick leave has been drastically reduced and moral is up for the most part. My only caveat is that 48/72 most definitely would not work in a "busy" department. But I dont think APG's call volume is much more than where I work, but Im not sure.
As for Belvoir's leave issues. I was told it stemmed from the Fire Chief making them use leave 48 hours at a time. That just doesnt make sense and should have been fought tooth and nail if that was in fact the issue.

On the topic of 48/72, could you guys help answer a pay question?
I'm not a fed firefighter, but have thought about applying for FT Myer where the schedule is 48/72.
The job is GS 7 with DC locality pay. Base pay shows $42,210, but with the built in OT and all, what is the actual gross?
Thanks in advance.

1*, just a word of advice, there are 6 people that work at Ft. Myer that volunteer at stations with "Lime" Fire Trucks, including 1 Captain and 1 Assistant Chief.

No problem. It's a swipe at the Antozilla character's sig line. You may have seen him around.
Thanks for the reply, and PM's. I'm going to pass on the ap, but my friend submitted his stuff the other day.
