Hey all. Whats up with the huge jump this year? 149 to 180 a pay for the Aetna PPO? Dont get me wrong, I'm very thankful to have insurance and I know the city pays a big chunk, but this is now pushing 400 bucks a month. Not small change to a guy that rides in the back of the wagon. WTF???

Would any of you guys say its safe to drop down to an HMO? I've always avoided those plans like the plague.

I've been with MDIPA (Now United Healthcare) for several years and have been very satisfied. The Employee share for Family Plan is around $105 for 2010.

During Open Season the information on available Health Plans is published so as you the consumer can review plans and find a health plan the meets your needs. The consumer organization "Washington Checkbook" publishes a yearly guide reviewing and rating the various Health Plans available. I have found this guide most helpful when reviewing my health care policy needs.

With that said you haven't seen nothing yet with this health care mess congress is trying to create.

I have always had the Aetna HMO, but it is now open access. I think it is ok. No complaints.

The family and I have always had the Aetna HMO, never any real complaints. Now that it is open access we don't have to deal with the silly referrals.

Prescription plan is great

Thanks all. I screwed up though. I'm pretty sure I'm stuck with this 180 a pay plan cause I didnt pay close enough attention and missed the boat for open season. Ya think they will let ya move down a plan out of season?

Dumbass. You should have asked me first. I have had the Aetna OA HMO since it became available. No worries here. Anyhoo, just have another kid and its a life event that will allow you to change coverage! :)
