Hmmm....after a few comments to Jane Wilmoth's diatribe of Chief Ellerbe on her blog, she now all of a sudden looks forward to finding out about Chief Ellerbe's vision for the department.....imagine that.....hate to have anyone cancel their subscription to Fire Chief magazine.... Maybe if she met the man prior to writing her baseless comments about someone she didn't know, maybe she wouldn't have had to write something negative in the first place....

Is she even involved in the fire service as an active member?

She's not, however, I told her to go blog on Better Housekeeping and Home & Garden magazines, it seemed like the perfect fit for her.:)

Why would you make a baseless comment like that on somebody you don't know?

This is one of my responses to Ms. Wilmoth. I'd suggest temperance in responding to her and not over-reacting to what she wrote. Give her a chance to do some homework and repost.
Ms. Wilmoth,
I responded to your post earlier but don't see it on your site, so I'll repost as it may have gotten 'lost in the mail.'
Quite frankly, I am surprised at the comments that you have published throughout the country. We don't know each other, so I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you may be reacting or responding to what you have read or heard from tertiary sources. I would strongly suggest that you contact Dr. Steven Newman, Medical Director for Sarasota County Fire and EMS to determine if your comments were warranted. Your unprecedented attack on me reflects negatively not just on me. Your comments may have a negative impact on the entire department that I represent and I must calmly object to your post. You have a large readership and are well-respected in our industry. Nothing can tear a person's integrity apart quicker than speaking as an authority without the benefit of careful research.
The members of the Sarasota County Fire and EMS Department are professionals who assume tremendous responsibility for over 350,000 people spread out over 481 square miles. Our members are well-trained, well-equipped and genuinely care for our community.
Again, I urge you to call Dr. Newman, get his take on what I have done and what the department has done. If you find that your article is in need of review or revision, I will view that as a professional courtesy that any one of us should be afforded. In the meantime, I'm not certain when we will have a time to speak, but, I will be paying attention to your comments, as I always do. As a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and a member of the Metro Chiefs Section I read the trade industry publications regularly.
Without knowing each other, I'd say that we've gotten off to a pretty poor start, but even a Kentucky Derby winner can stumble coming out of the gate! As a former athlete and runner I believe that it's not how you start but how you finish that matters sometimes.
Sincerely,
Kenneth B. Ellerbe
Fire Chief

Kenzin - That is far too mature a response to post on this site. The followers of TWD are like sharks; they respond best to blood in the water. Calm, rational, well-thought out, non-knee jerk responses are rarely seen here.

As a Leader this is how you are suppose to respond. I'm glad we have someone that don't mind coming on these types of sites to find out how people really feel and maybe can try and make some decisions that would probably make them feel happy, even tho we all know you can't please everyone! And that somebody is always gonna be un-happy.
Maybe some of us can take notes on how to respond to HATERS!
