FIREFIGHTER
CITY OF HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA
STARTING SALARY $21,000.00, plus basic medical insurance
(increase to $41,839.74 upon successful completion of a 12-week training period)
The City of Harrisburg Bureau of Fire will open recruitment to establish a new civil service eligibility list for the position of Firefighter effective June 7, 2004. Applicants must be at least 20˝ years of age by the deadline/closing date for submission of applications; must be a U.S. citizen; have graduated from an accredited high school, earned a G.E.D. certificate or attained an equivalent education acceptable to the Commission; possess a valid driver’s license that has not been suspended and/or restored within the past 3 years from the deadline/closing date for submission of applications; and must not have been refused vehicle registration for a violation of financial responsibility within the past 3 years from the deadline/closing date for submission of applications. Applicants who reside outside the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania must obtain a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license on or before the completion of the training period.
Applicants who are hired must establish residency within the corporate limits of the City of Harrisburg within 6 months after completion of the probationary period and must continually maintain City residency thereafter.
Applicants will be required to pass a written examination, physical ability test, police background investigation and other evaluatory processes.
Applicants must submit an Official Application for the Postion of Firefighter to be consider for the position. No resumes or other employment applications will be accepted. Official Application packets may be obtained in person on weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. or by written request from the City of Harrisburg, Bureau of Human Resources, Suite 406, 10 N. 2nd St., Harrisburg, PA 17101. A $10.00 postage and handling fee (check or money order payable to “City Treasurer”) must be submitted with each written request for an application to be mailed. A $25.00 non-refundable processing fee (check or money order payable to “City Treasurer”) is due at the time of filing the application. Applications must be filed in person. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
THE DEADLINE FOR FILING AN APPLICATION IS
2:00 P.M. ON FRIDAY, JULY 16, 2004.
Qualified applicants will be scheduled for a written examination that will be given on Saturday, August 21, 2004, at 8:00 a.m. Study materials will be distributed to each applicant at the time of filing an application. A pre-examination study session will be offered at a time, date and location to be determined.
