A few thoughts,
10 years is a long time, but it still hurts, losing 343 brothers in one single horrific incident still boggles the mind. Yet, there is much to be thankful for. This mass murder unified our country unlike any other way I have seen in my entire life. There are those amongst us who claim we retaliated in a unilateral and illegal manner, but if there's one quality, one characteristic that makes us American, it's that we will do what we have to do no matter the consequence, and we WILL see it through to the end. I have never been more proud to be American and to be one of this great nation's Firefighters than on that fateful day as the entire planet was witness to the true mettle of America's bravest. In the 10 years that have passed there is much to be thankful for, especially our brave men and women in uniform, our unparalleled military, who have gone on to continue the necessary sacrifice to keep us safe and free, and for that you and your families have our utmost grateful and humble thanks and prayers. There are many more people who deserve our nation's sincerest gratitude also including but not limited to the civilians who toil for our military, intelligence agencies, and relief agencies, law enforcement, EMS, and Homeland Security, all who work for the common good of this country and our communities. While we currently struggle through a frail economy and witness political stalemate, it occurs to me in my relatively short time on this planet, that we as a country will pull through, we always do, and I realize just how fortunate I am to have been born and raised in the United States of America, and I am so very proud to live in a country that is still regarded as a beacon for those who yearn to be free. As I write this today I see our common foe was unable to pull anything off on yesterday's momentous anniversary, testament to our ability to work together to achieve a common goal. To my brothers and sisters in DCFD, after 25 years of service, I am still proud to wear DCFD on my back, I am proud to be but a humble foot soldier in this great organization, I am proud of the community I serve, and I am proud to be but a small part of America's Bravest. God Bless America, and God Bless our Military.
