I noticed on the advertisement for employment at your facility that the Firefighter position is being advertised as a 05/08. Just so I understand properly, does that mean you will be hired as a GS-05 with promotion potential to a GS-08? If so what ranks would coincide with each GS pay grade.

I think this is the way it goes.....
GS-5.....Firefighter
GS-6.....Driver/Operator
GS-7.....EMT
GS-8.....Hazmat Technician
of course you gotta have Firefighter I to even be considered, but yes there is the possibility to become an 8 with the proper certifications..... :D

Yes, you could be hired as a GS-8 as long as one meets or exceeds the requirements for that position.

Firemedic_2040, the only ranks in between the fire chief and the Hazmat Tecnicians are the new Captains & the existing Assistant Chiefs. We currently have promoted 4 guys to Captain and we have 2 Assistant Chiefs.
10-57, Mt. Weather is located in VA. The job announcements are usually located on either USA Jobs or the OPM website.

The Captain's are 8/9's, not sure about the A/C's grade. As far as hiring anytime soon, it all depends on if the ones that were offered a job gets their clearance. If they don't, then I assume that their positions will be reopened to fill.
