I am a DC Officer. You probably will only see that thing during CDU Details or anouther major event in the city also it will probably run all situations wth our ERT team. I saw it for the first time at the Acadamy. The thing looks tough.
Why don't the cops stay cops and let the firefighters be firefighters. You guys need that rig like we need guns during IMF. Thats a special event. We want to play with each others toys.....givem up. Lets play with each others toys then.
Does this mean the squads/Trucks wont get called out to "assist the police" at 3am to check the well fare, or open a door?
You guys could have used that money in a lot better ways. :(

Don't you dare start mouthing off you POS, while I wait for your ass on accidents, shootings etc.. the only thing some of you MF'ers seem to respond to quickly and you fuck that up is our fire calls.
I bet that new Krispy Kreme is busy 24/7with your ilk.
So let me guess you are one of those volunteer firemen who didn't score HIGH enough on the fireman's exam so you became a cop and now want to be a insert the word you understand officer(psuedo, faux, fake or wanna be) __________ fireman.
The firemen I ride with run no less than 15 runs per shift, drill another couple of hours... So any chance they get to sit out front is well deserved! In addition I also believe the City Paper did an article on some of your fat ass MPD officers not the firemen.
Find a Police website to talk smack on you shitbag!
An so there is no mistake if you'd like to discuss this in person feel free to find me at 1018 13th St NW on Platoon No.1

Lets see where to start. How about Loo for life " fat ass MPD officers " I take it you haven't seen the company pride photos on DCFD.COM. And while your doing the math 15 runs for a 24 hour shift. Thats not bad. How about 25 to 30 runs in eight hours ? But no big deal I picked this job just like you did right,or were you a cadet
And about passing the fire test. Don't act like it was that hard. I did pass and I turned it down. Before you start crying the test for MPD wasen't that hard either K. OOOps thats me trying to act like an NYPDer.
Tk 3 Barman " NY wanna-b rig " I can't figure out who your talking about, is it the ESU truck or Tower Ladder #3. That is what they say when they go off the air right Tower ladder #3. That doesn't sound anything like FDNY does it.
K.
I really don't know what the big problem is with the truck or squad or what ever you want to call it I mean look at it this way you only have to see it 8 times a month unless your working overtime right.

24-7 my ass ** 8 hours and off duty or OT ** that is what your motto should be..
Let's not lie to the people we serve ! Since when do you go past 8 and not put in for OT, only when Ramsey pisses in your post wheaties and changes the shift short term for a crisis mode. If you all spent your time actually doing your frickin J-O-B there would be no crisis to begin with...
Let's see you have 3800 FTE's (not including all the other 29 Police Agencies) too cover, we will give you benefit of the doubt 69 sq miles. Taking into acct dayworkers, SOD and it's numerous needed branches oh and those 300 off on stress etc.. etc.. you should have roughly 10 cops per sq mile per shift for christ sakes sooooooo please don't go all high n mighty on me :D
OOOOO 20 to 25 per 8 hour shift, zDrunk on street let's call Fire waste n Ambulance and fire truck time for some one we could take to detox, report filed, man urinating in the alley ooooo report filed ooops same drunk oooo a two-fer come on I was born at night but it wasn't last night. OBTW if you do handle that many then you r the exception not the rule and I congratulate you (I am being serious 4 one moment here)
Well U may have it on the technical merit on the photos, but we were not thwe subject of an article about our waistlines suggest you shoot for a letter to the editor on that one spud.

Now Now Loo,first of all it would be a Comptime slip not overtime. Overtime is what you would get if you rode the ambulance but your a FIREMAN so we all know how you hate that med-local stuff so lets not lie to the public on that one.
And while we are talking about the truth here do you guys get out the door as fast on med-locals as you do on a BOX ? Once again the people should know these things right. Lets not lie to the people we serve.
To Tk 3 barman Im sorry I was unaware that you went off the air with a button know. I thought that you were still running a fifth engine company to help out with that great radio system the city bought. But that is a safety issue for you guys and THAT WAS needed.
But thats not a waste just having that engine company sitting around is it. I mean they could have been helping me out with all the drunks I stop right. :D And when we go off the air I guess we wil say ESU truck #1 is 10-8 or 10-7 . I say truck 1 because truck 2 is still being built. OOOps should we have spent that money on something else too.
I mean come on Loo do you really thing saying that there are 3,800 cops around that there won't be any crime. Thats like saying there should'nt be any fires I mean damn we only have 7 police district's and you guys have 30 plus stations right. :o
Can't you just say The truck looks nice and leave it at that. Im sure we could sit here all day and night and talk smack about MPD and DCFD. Maybe you just happen to be someone who comes to work and has pride in the job that you do. I just don't understand why you think the fireside is the only service in the city that has that pride. I've been following this thread and I don't really get what the problem is. MPDC gets ESU trucks for thier Tac team and it's like some great controversy. Do you DCFD guys think you'll be out of jobs soon? Why do you really care? Do you think the "horror" stories from NYC will now happen to you? What's the protocols for MPDC's ESU? If any departments in the country should have an ESU for tactical/tactical haz mat/additinal rescue resources, DC is one of them. I think you guys believe too much of the BS out of NYC.

Why are we having a debate on this, on the fire side, no more getting up in the middle of the night for a “hostage saturations”, only to sit for hours two blocks away for nothing. I guess we can start calling the cops to assist animal control calls too. On the cop side, they now claim they do more things, will get more money because they are to be able to show what they can now do, something that has eluded the senior staff on the fire side. Oh lets correct this - we still have the one and two week officer day camp still going on, great way to spend money, we should have let MFRI do the school, everyone would have been better off, and probably would actually have learn something new; instead gave overtime to "teachers" who do not have a clue on what they are doing, and often they were corrected by senior Capt's & BFC's on their mistakes. :)
But lets face the facts, the decisions on what the cops do with the new “rescue” unit will be made by Chief Ramsey, and Chief Thompson and their respective staff.
Chief Thompson will probably lets the cops do anything they want or run anytype of call they wish too, since he has yet to make a decision wave on anything [ The Dr Danials termination - mayor office told him to do it, not his decision].
Chief Thompson just drifts along doing anything the mayors office tells him, promoting those who will never challange him, or transferring anyone who makes a wave or challanges a decisions he or his staff made.

talk about keepin yourself employed. lets see I remember the dirty dozen and many other MPD officers on the wrong side of the law, U only arrest about 50% of serious offenders, 25% r released because of MPD screw ups when the arrest was made, of the 25% left 15% can't b convicted because of MPD screw up's collecting evidence, and of the 10% left of that 5% r released way 2 soon because of your fellow law enforcement brothers screw up, so that means just 5% of the 1's u do arrest stay in jail. I'd say thats job security. and I do have many more MPD fuck up's, thought I'd save a few 4 later.

4) #4 you may be right about that one. Come on now we like to sit and watch all the HOOOOOOO's go by too. And if you need some doughnuts just let us know we can pick some up for ya. Nothing like a good doughnut after a long nap at 16 engine.
5) Boz got shot on Third Watch ? I did'nt know that I must have been working the Third Watch when Third Watch was on. Im crying now, I must be crying almost as much as you did when " BULL " died in the back of the shitbox in " BACKDRAFT ".
Man what a movie it still gives me chills. And those fires. They just looked so REAL..
6) To get on ESU. Not that hard, show up and do some training with the tools. Did I really have to spend years as a FIREMAN wanna be to learn how to start a SAW.
Loo for Life could you PLEASE have Tk 3 barman send his stuff to you before he posts it. Just take a quick look and spice them up for him. THANKS LOO LOVE YA MAN.
One last thing Tk 3 barman don't forget ..... COPS comes on Fox at 2000 tonight. Take Care and as always BE SAFE............ :D

I think its ridiculous to give tickets for that. A responsible adult should be able to operate a motor vehicle and talk on a phone without any problem. Just a revenue maker for the city, thats all.

Well first off all let say I am sorry for creating such a big fus over the ESU of MPDC. When I came on in 97 I realized that MPDC was a huge clutster f..K! Yeah alot , moreless like 90% of the officers spent more time trying to hide from runs, arrest, and court than trying to do what they were paid for, and paid for WELL!! When Ramsey and Gainer came on I saw a window of things getting better in years to come So I did some research and tried to see how the MPD could use a "Rapid response tool box." This was to remove the DCFD from police scenes that were police issues, lighting, ladders, forced entries, and many of other reponses. One New years eve a group of subjects began firing off guns at 1432 Clifton St NW. As we attempted to arrest them they closed the apartment stairway door. We could hear them kicking the pistol around. We needed to pop the door and requested DCFD.When E-9 arrived it was an uneasy feeling putting the fireman with the irons at the door. This was the oringinal purpose of and ESU rapid response mini-truck or as my original name SET (special equipment truck). I had the chance to sit with the late FDNY Dep Chief Raymond Downey at a confrence at Galludet Unv. in 2000 and asked him over lunch "How and what would you do different if you were to re-establish the NYPD ESU." He said do away with the duplicate services ( auto, rope, and other rescues by the police that were F.D. related) and do more joint training with the FD so each other would know thier capabilities. That only made common sense!! Well the current Lt. of the MPD ESU was with me during the conversation as well. Looking at the unit today it saddens me that one this unit has a hell of alot of tolls but is a part time team only during events and it went in what I feel the WRONG DIRECTION!! I love that MACK squad and it looks sweet but it is TOO BIG for what D.C. needs. The little trucks are the perfect size and would serve the purpose fine (they were for ESU until the ERT (SWAT Team) took them). Second, I left MPD in July of 03 after exceeding the age limit for the DCFD by 10 months and did not want to spend a career working with and for these spineless cluster fucks that care only about thier selves and have never had an understanding for "Having your heart in the job." I just wished that the MPDC property division would issue spines and heart to these gutless leaders and those certain officers as well who continue to move backwards through the eyes of the folks they work with. It is a shame that the ESU is not providing what it was designed to do. It was not designed to do fire related task, it just uses alot of fire dept. tools and tactics for police related reponses. I am sorry that I even proposed the ESU/SET concept to MPDC in Jan 2000. I can only hope that a certain someone wakes up and makes HIS stand to take "HIS" unit in a direction that would work for the city rather than himself.

Thinking about the money spent for the esu, how much would it have cost to give every squad car a hydra-ram?

I think MPD Special Ops is about to have some competition in the police squad business.
The USSS has their own "Hammer Team"
The USCP will be receiveing 2 Rescue Squads
Metro PD wants one
The Cathedral Police are buying a 135" Articulating boom
and at least 2 univiersity PDs are looking into this option as well.

So by next year, we going to have 6 "rescue' squads, and if DCFD call one of the police "squads" does it mean we will also have to wait 30 to 45 minutes before they show up?
ok, another 1, 2,3 truck companies? Also by next year, DCFD will repond to Georgetown, GWU, AU, or CU and will now have to rescue the university poilce, along with MPD, and any other lazy ass student who feels that it is his right not to leave his dorm room when the fire alarm goes off. :p

I heard a call go out yesterday at work for the squad. It seems they got dispatched to a barricade. Thought thats what that thing that got was for?
Typical MPD, buy it, paint it, let it sit there and rust, beg the city for more money to fix it up again........repeat, repeat........

Tk 3 Barman your back, I thought I had lost you. I did'nt see any rust on the truck friday night when it was being used for lights on 295, but I will check. Hey did you and engineman ever figure out who did what on that A.A. County box ? And like I stated in other post's ( please read them this time ) plans are in the works for the truck to be used on barricades. So sorry until that happens your still going to have to get out of bed. :D Take care and BE SAFE......

We know you guys wanna be us so bad you will take any information you can however you can. Should have studied harder....you coulda been a firefighter too...

I will let you in on something that will really burn your ass. It's not a full time unit yet. :D And you keep saying the City. The City didn't pay for it. And just so that you understand , we run the truck on calls when we are requested by MPD Units.
As far as wanting to be like you no problem, I will stop by Dunkirk tonight and start riding with ya. ....And typing slower, I was trying to give you a pass since most of the post's you leave have screwed up info in them.
And should'nt you be sitting at the watchdesk reading over your probation book instead of writting on the watchdesk. ;)
PLEASE this time read my post's, print them, do what you have to do to remember what I have said, I passed the same ROCKET TEST that you took.
I just had other choices then 1. DCFD 2. Stay at Dunkirk for free 3. Continue to work for AAA Ambulance or 4. Wait to the WAhWAh opens and take over the night time gas-booth job.
I read the watchdesk because I think most of the stuff that is written is in good fun. Sometimes people write stuff thats not true ( MPD's ESU Truck and how it will be used ) and I respond to it. I don't respond to the fire stuff it would'nt be right. So take care and as always BE SAFE....... Keepin the DOUGHNUTS warm see ya......

Hey 24/7, If the city didn't pay for it, where did the funding come from? Just wondering if my federal tax dollars were footing the bill.
Thanks,

damn 24/7, your an uptight dude.
First off, I really don't care about the unit. Its just fun stirrin the pot with you. So as far as burnin my ass.......sorry.
second off, if your being requested by your own units, then why didn't they request you on the barricade?
Third off, thats a standing joke between fire/police as far back as anyone can tell you about so lighten up. Dunkirk.......lets see I can count on one hand how many times in the last 6 months I have been there, so in nice words ....get your running route straight.
Probie book......no more then you should be reading yours. I have been off probation for a few years now, thanks.

So after all those things did not pan out for you, you became a cop huh? Good choice.
So in closing, stay low, be safe, and there will always be warm coffee and doughnuts at the house for ya. :)

You must not have understood what I wrote. The choices for jobs were yours not mine. :o Dunkirk, Im sorry I thought you were a member. Maybe not the guy that has his DCFD uniform on for officer's pictures ( did he really have to wear that for the pictures ? I know he's proud of his job, and thats all he could find to wear ) but a member just the same.
As far as the truck goes why would you guys ever want anything that a bunch of COPS had built anyway. It's just a little old truck. For those of you wondering who paid for it ...... drum roll please........ Let's just say when DCFD had a chance to maybe ask to have the 4th Squad put back in service and get a new one, they decided to get a command bus,and I will leave it at that. I do think its funny that some of you feel that it's a waste of money. If that truck helps one person how is it a waste.
Im sure you would say that it's a waste because the Police have it. Besides when its all said and done we are not trying to " duplicate a service " as many of you are saying. You do your thing and we will do ours. Im sorry if I came off as being uptight, did'nt mean to. So here we are last page and the last post so LOO FOR LIFE you take care and BE SAFE continue to teach these young men how to be FIREMEN. Buckey I love you and NO I don't want to FIGHT YOU ( just a joke ) :D And Tk 3 Barman you take care too.

No problems man.
The person in the DCFD uniform is a medic for the city. I am on the members page, however I am in turnouts not a uniform. My choices of jobs was all mine, your right. I love my job as I am sure you love yours. This post was and is all in fun for the most part. Lets stop throwing rocks and maybe we can teach each other about why things are the way they are between departments.

Well rumor or not, council record or not, what the hell is the point of having such truck if it doesn't show up until an hour or two after the fact. On the metro crash the other day "truck 1" didn't show up until fire units were going in service and then it just turned around and drove off. It was also driver only, so again what the hell is the point of MPD having this truck? What equipment does this "sweet" truck carry anyways?

*sigh*
Aside from the fun of tweaking each other, MPD could have avoided all (or most) of the "shots fired" by getting something more functional (in terms of their use for it) and not quite so similar in appearance and equipment to a rescue squad.
BTW, got a tour of the Secret Service's bus the other day. No chance our squad guys would take that beast...it's an oversized ambulance with a Hurst tool stuck in the back...stretcher mount in the middle and everything. I hope they have the sense to call DC Fire for anybody they are supposed to be protecting who gets shot, though, since the individual who was trying to treat the patient on that call was even worse than the average DC paramedic.
