What color helmets represent your officers?

White - Line Officer (Fire - LT through Chief)
Yellow - Firefighter
Red - Jr. or Prob. Firefighter
Blue - EMS
Orange - Our Hazmat guy wears this color - not sure why or how the color was assigned.
The scheme was adopted by the County Fire Chief's Association and member departments agreed to follow it, even though they're not obligated to. I'd be completely happy if we ignored what they put on paper so Firefighters could wear Black.

White Vol Sgt, LT Career & Vol up to Chief
Yellow and Black Firefighter and Aministration Officers
Red Probie and Jr Firefighters
Blue EMS
Orange Observer
Reflective tape colors can indicate for Officers and Firefighters training and positions.
In our county this is how we operate but other counties surrounding have Red has Sgt up to Capt which makes it funny when a mutual aid company from out of county walks up to a Red Helmet and ask what do you need us to help with.

There is no standard for the county in our location. Most departments either use pretty much the same as this, or they use all officers as white, with firefighters as black.

Yes I have for over 30 years! We have names of the members on the bottom of the turn out coats also. Our department is large enough yet members can and do know who the officers are on a job. Besides, I really haven't had to get in front of an officer to "see the front" to know who it was.
I fail to see the problem with knowing who is on da job. This may be a problem for the small resume speed department. Every one from the last on board to the first on has a different helmet color. If they were in an busy department, the color really wouldn't matter as the helmet would be dirty and nasty any how, making it hard to see any shell color!

Hi;
You have to understand that not every department [paid and volunteer] has that system, The department I work for just has its name on the back, and uses colored helmets, company stickers, rank rockers, and a helmet shield.
However each position has an assigned radio, and each Scott has an integrated pass alarm. I guess it comes down to a money issue, but on a personal level I also would like to have names on the back to help id people.

Yes We use the Cairns 660C Salad Bowls with Rank Id Rockers on the sides. Now since we did "uniform" our gear to look the same, Our Last names are also Velcro held on the lwr back of our Bunker Jackets, each set of gear is numbered, along with the helmet(s) so if you switch from Lt (My gear Number is 51, same with my Lt helmet) to Capt or FF, you can switch the helmet shield to match your gear #.

our officers from lt. and up all have white hats (helmets) all the rest of us peons have red, ems have blue hard hats (like construction hardhats) and cadets have black. putting all the officers in white helmets i believe is the same throughout the whole county. other depts. use different colors for the line firefighters which could vary depending on whether you're a ff/medic or ff/emt.

Why all the rainbow effect of helmets... Waste of money. Its cheaper just to change the crests rather than buying all new helmets all the time.. I believe top 3 should have white all the rest black

Kind of hard to read crests or crescent rockers from across the fireground don't you think......colors are much more recognizable from a distance. Be safe.

Captains-red

Firefighters-black w/green scotchlite

Albemarle County, Virginia
White: Chief, Batt. Chief
Yellow: Captain
Red: Junior or Probationary Firefighter (Used to be LT. but county went away from LT.)
Black: Released Firefighter
Blue: EMS or TRT (If TRT or EMT and releasedFirefighter, you get a black helmet with TRT and/or EMT Decal)
Orange: Not used
Green: Not used
We use the red helmet for the Juniors and the Probies cause they either can't go in or they need an officer. County mostly uses Bullard FireDomes(junk) but FF have the option of buying a 1010 or leather helmet.
