What's a guy gotta do to get a job at an Army base in VA?
Fort Meade
Fort Detrick
Fort AP Hill
Fort Monroe
Fort Lee
I get "Your resume was not referred to the selecting official as you were not among the top competitors" most of the time. Can someone tell me what some of the specific things Chiefs are looking for? I have cert all the way to lead firefighter. I'd at least like the chance to have my resume looked at.

Hey bud

Just to let you know Ft. Detrick is in Frederick County Maryland, and Ft Meade is in Anne Arundal County Maryland. They aren't in Va. Thoult I would let you know. Try the web site www.USAJOBS.com. It's has all of the gov job openings for the us gov. Hope this is what you where looking for.

Hey H2O

Yeah...I know those bases are in Maryland....I just forgot when I was typing....I'm kinda frustrated. This thread already exisited, and I didn't want to start another. As I stated in my previous post, I have certs coming out the ying-yang, but most of the time my résumé’s not ever getting looked at. I'm already in the DOD system, but looking to transfer to MD or VA.

Thanks for the heads-up / info.

Hey Buddy your resume needs to reflect the requirements of the job posting. look how the the job describtion is worded and then apply your experience using the key words in the describtion. Resumes are put into a computer bank and it's the computer that picks up the key word that classes your resume. want to know more let me know.

I have been able to be referred for several MD and VA positions and have even received a few interviews. What you might want to do is review the way your RESUMIX resume is written. I would start by pulling the job announcements for the types of jobs you are applying for and reviewing duties, skills and key words/phrases. Next review your Resumix to be sure it includes those key words. A simple variation of lead/supervise/manage can cost you a referral. Several years ago when resumix was in its infancy I applied for two positions at an Army Post where I was a DOD civilian firefighter. I was referred for the position I was less qualified for, but not referred to the one I had actually held previously because of the wording in my resumix. I hope this helps and do not get discouraged from trying.

I don't know whether it's something with the Army or what. I work for the DON and am currently a Lead Firefighter, certified through Fire Officer IV, including Airport Firefighter, Hazmat Tech, and EMT. I also have a Bachelor's Degree; I was exploring my options and placed my resume on the Army resume system, the old one and now the new one. I was only called by one base (Fort Meyer) for a firefighter position, in which I turned down.

I did track my resume and according to the tracking system my resume was looked at and I found that I did not qualify, not sure why.

I agree with what AC302 had written, check everything over and make sure all of your t's are crossed and i's are dotted.

Best of luck!

I think another factor may have been that I was applying to numerous announcements; so I tried to combine all of the descriptions...it might not have worked in my favor.

PS….can anyone tell me if the position at FT Monroe has been filled?

I've received a reply from a Lead Firefighter with numerous certs, a Fox and an A/C (I guess on my part). What more can I guy ask for. Thanks for the info guys. :)
