minutes NOT when the third due truck and 6th due engine gets there.

Squads were started to rescue firemen, I don't think it is a good thing for them to be the RIT on every fire though. If that is the case they'll never do fire duty again unless a fireman gets in trouble, F that!!! Keep it on the truck, it further justifies the existence of 16 trucks that may be a few to many!!

Now lets assume, because you will not say where you are, that you are at the busiest truck or tower in the city. That places you right up there the flagship of the firefighting 5th, Engine 31!! So do ALL the engines pukes a favor, Dont eat time, stay up an extra 30 minutes I know thats tough. PLEASE get up for pole watch, walk across the floor and reset the master and turn off the trip lights so your truck brethern dont have to pull the blankets over their heads. Volunteer to pick up groceries and god forbid cook them, then maybe we could ALL eat by 8PM. Lastly, push the broom during house work, it is not a prop for you to lean on while you stand on the front ramp during rush hour talking smack to the ladies as they walk by.

look at the book relieve a man check the truck fix what they broke the day before wash the truck with the rest of the guys help start breakfast eat do my clean up assignment take truck out front put up ladder start all
power equipment with all the guys dry the truck off and do the windows
and drill with the rookies around 10am. The only talking we do is telling the bums and crackheads they can`t use the shitter and go away
Yes the trucks don`t run a shit load of runs but who wants to run medical
locals all day long not me.I`m very satisfied with my house we all get along
even the other shifts get relieved around 5am eat(ALL OF US) it`s very clean
and ONLY 4 tv sets not one at every bed.I would like to run more fires but

Lets do a quick senario:Big fire everybodys doing something someone goes down
in the first 5 minutes the Chief calls for the WFD 2 to 5 minutes later it gets
dispatched then you wait another 5 to 10 minutes the third due truck to arrive
and they are at least one whole block away due to good old MPD leaving thier car
in the way. The squad is already there! I need a BEER goodby

Whoa, Let's address a few things here....

Ghost Truckie: First do not cast disparaging remarks unless you really want them to come back and haunt you later! Hey Slim is no stranger REALLY no stranger to sleepless nights in the DCFD, so that first n foremost would not make him a Squad dude. The E30LT was one of the hardest working Wagon Masters that I have met in this FD, he was slightly unstable at times but a good good fireman and wheeler so his assecntion up the ranks was hard earned and not surprising.

Rest of you why is it GT was being assualted cause he gave his opinion on this issue and I love alot of Squad guys but let's be honest he isn't the only one that has that opinion so lest we beat him down for his it is still just an opinion.

Now as for the original post I have always been a believer of the Rescues being the Save Your Own (fireman) team..... They were created for that purpose we were ahead of our time. Yes the fireman's skills would lack but let's again be honest they go in look around may or may not find anybody and then speak on the radio primary complete a few moments later they say secondary complete then they go home so they don't fight fires with hose lines, they don't perform overhaul so what skills will be lost? This is not too be construed as bashing the Rescue Dudes just speaking facts, so please don't get pissy with me :mad:

Now why would they (Rescue Dudes) or any of us not want the best trained (Special Ops) to be ready and responsible for saving our foolish asses. Seems to me that is a great way to serve the greater good, if the Incident Commander wanted to use them for another task he could and replace them as need be.

I only fight fire with fire,when someone yells for hooks the bars and sledgehammers are not going to work very well. Yes there is trucks that need alot of work even mine sometimes nobodies perfect.The squads don`t get rookies or too many detail guys in.Why should a truck with those kind of dudes be a RIT team?It should be dudes that always work and train together to be the best chance for us.

Back to the "rumor", I will agree that you wouldn't want the squad to be stuck in the RIT group all the time, but the fact of the matter is the bad shit is most likely to happen early in the fire and to rely on the WFD to know WTF is going on is a pipe dream. They get there way too late into the incident and most BFC's don't even let the WFD truck/engine do anything productive on the scene like a walk around, reposition ladders, cut bars, etc.. The whole RIT thing needs to be looked at if nothing else comes out of this "rumor". Thanks Loo for trying to get us back on track.

Lost in all this is the fact that the RIT/RIG policy has pretty much remained stagnant since its implementation and should be revisited occasionally! We, the members, owe those; John, Sauce, Lou,.. ETC, that their sacrifice is for naught!! As time passes, the memories of these lads fade as well as the reasons why policies were implemented after their deaths.

now the original post said they where adding a truck 2 the box. dont see it happening. the 5th due engine is suppose 2 have there own supply and hand line n front of the building, they can b used with a truck or squad until aditional units get there.

I don't see them adding more units 2 a box until they know its a working fire. hell, I can't believe we still have the 5th engine (even though its been the best thing since we went 2 single engine companies) man I miss those pumpers

Trucks not making rescues...Hmmm...
1.Guy from Truck 17 throws ladder, enters window, finds kid, brings kid out. 2.Guys from 27 Hose and Truck 17 throw ladder and remove 2 workers and 1 civilian from burning house.
3.Guys from Truck 4 and Engine 4 throw ladder, enter window, find 2 kids, bring kids out.
4.Truck 9 enters apartment building, finds civilian, removes him to street.
5.Truck 7 removes elderly civilian from rowhouse.

Now, I'm not saying the Squads didn't have any grabs within the last year, but stop talking all that bullshit. It is a simple concept of mind over matter. Trucks don't mind, cause Squads don't matter. :D

BTW...If upper management finds out they could put rope, shores, saba's, and extrication tools on Trucks or Engines...why would we need Squads?

Its all about how you write up a bullshit rescue..MPD get's awards for going into food on the stove, because their commander wrote a bullshit report... and let's not talk aboutOfficers snatchin' rescues from their layout man and gettin' all the glory because they walked out the bldg. with em'( 2nd alarm in 27 area.) Elvans Road rescue! Oooohhh, Don't see the mayor or chief on the front ramp giving awards a week later in SE like the E4 ceremony. Because alot of squad rescues are not talked about because that's their job. Throwing a ladder for someone to climb down my friend is not a rescue it's the trucks job..Remember "he ain't heavy, he's my brotherrrrrrrrr!!!!!

PS- If they would put a 11/2 line and 200 gal. tank on a squad you would'nt need engines now would you...
