Isn't a wonderful thing that someone lost what the may have taken years to get so you can run more calls!
We live in small towns because we like the peace and quiet, we like the fact that we know our neighbors. We don't like seeing them lose what they have worked so hard to get. If it means we run less calls, so be it! It just means that our friends and neighbors were safe another day!

This really starting to piss me off...there're chat rooms for you guys to get off on....go to them..and have fun....In the mean time for those into the Fire/Rescue service...I think the gods at the academy..to have a so called firefighter get his FFI/FFII..and then be eliglble to be an instructor is ....Bullshit..1st degree BULLSHIT...these so called instructors can in fact acheive instructor status and never even been in an actual fire...and they're going to teach forthcoming firefighters.........give me a break... :eek:

There was a guy on our ambulance aced his EMT class, state practicals and the state test. Nothing but 90's on EVERY damn quiz, and test, whizzed his practicals. Give him a live patient and he panicked, abandoned more patients than he ever tried to care for. Not someone I wanted to run with, or end up stuck with on a call. Nothing like having a partner and working alone, because he is ONLY book smart. YES, I wrote him up, and he ended up leaving the ambulance.
I did great in my class also, did very well on my practicals, passed both the class and the state exams with flying colors. I can't stand the sight of blood, but I was a damn good tech, and NEVER, not once did I ever leave a patient. So even though he did better grade wise then I did. Hey, what can I say I got a couple 80's. Who would you rather run with, someone who is book smart, or someone who can do the job?
I would be willing to bet you, I could pass the FFI and II, and the instructors class, would you want me to be your instructor, knowing that all I've run as is an EMT-D, having NO firefighter experience at all? I do also hold a Haz Mat Operational cert, and fyi, I did better in that class then most of the FF's I took it with.
Hell I wouldn't want me as an instructor if I knew that! I'd want someone teaching me who's been there, who knows what can really happen.
Come on, most of what we learn in EMT class is WAY different from what we do in the field. First thing our EMT instuctor told those of us who had been in the field was, forget what you do now and remember what you are learning. You can go back to what you do when you are out there, but for tests and practicals, it's all by the book!

Well, I try to never get involved in these pissing matches online because they are abolstuely stupid. If I don't measure up to their standards then so be it. It's not really that big of a deal to me. What I will tell you is this. If you are a firefighter in MD, be a firefighter in MD. If you are a firefighter in CT, be one in CT. There is no comparing PG County firefighting to firefighting in any other county in the world. If you think that CT even come close, you might be a little crazy.
