Sorry to bother you guys with my stupid question. I apoligize for only being a Voulnteer Firefighter and for trying to get a paid position like everyone would like to have so I can be a " Real Firefighter ". I'd love to be stationed at Trinidad, but the reality of it is that I'll probably never have a chance like you guys. So thanks for your help man what firefighter brotherhood and professional courtsey. Thanks ghost your a real true friend.

10-57, dude, don't worry about these guys. They are just bitter because the Federal Government realizes that they need a dependable service to protect their property, employees and visitors.....and they found out it's better to do it themselves. Check out www.usajobs.opm.gov and see if the agency is still hiring. Or check with the Federal Firefighters Forums....Be safe Bro.

First off Mr. 10-57,
You being a volunteer had nothing to do with the answers you recieved. Second, you said you want to be a career firefighter stationed in Trinidad? How will you do that if your stationed in the bowels of the US Capitol basement? It's a Haz-Mat Team, not a Fire Department. Pretty big difference there big guy. Third, you said you may never get a chance to be career. Did you take the test? If so did you score high enough to get hired?
By the way, I am not knocking you for wanting to work for the US Capitol either. It just is not a fire department like you posted (You wanted). Good luck in finding your career.

HAHAHA! Another professional response from one of the District's Bravest!
I just find it so hard to understand why any of you would be angry that the Federal Government is protecting their interests in the city. It's their right, I mean truthfully, if they wanted to protect the entire city with a Federally Ran Fire Department and a Federally Ran Police Agency they could. And where would you be then? Sitting on the other side of the fence watching the Federal Guys run calls like the Federal Guys do now... :D and I know where I lurk on here, I am bored. So why not stir some GAR-BAHJE to curb my boredom? There are somany easy targets on here to rile up...so why not make an attempt to piss someone off in every jurisdiction? And I musyt remind you Mr. Barman, I have never posted on the Hawaii Threds, but I might now that you mention it. (Lighten Up dude, I could care less who runs haz-mat...)

Hawaii,
It would be a good start.

I never said it bothered me to have federal departments run with the city.

Esspecially since I have seen this new Secret Service Responce Team. They don't do Shit but get in the way. They have a nice big AMBULANCE they call a Emergency Services Unit. It aint nothing but a Frieghtliner AMBULANCE! They wont Transport, they are squierrels to the highest level, and if there is a "True" emergency, they told us personally "they" are calling us!!!!

As far as the Has-Mat Unit at the Capitol. I have never run with them so I can't say.

As far as being a federal firefighter......been there done that, got the t-shirt "and still wear it on ocacassion". I have no problems with federal guys at all.

Have a great day there big guy. And by the way......I have lightened up... :p

At one time this web site was actually used by many to share ideas and give constructive criticism in a professional manner. A few years back the DC Government installed computers with Internet access in all the firehouses, which gave people who normally didn’t have Internet access at home a means to communicate with others. With any hope, one day maybe the Phantom will put a stop to it, but I doubt it!

All professionals should act in a professional manner.

I was only trying to get info. on the team and possible openings. I wasn't trying to get in the middle of some DCFD and Federal bashing, Believe me there's enough of that in my own area of the Watch Desk. I've been a vollie since I was old enough to join and have been training eversince, I know that the word vollie can be a bad word to paid guys but were not all that bad. If someone is willing to give me info. on potential hirings be it either FD or Hazmat just send me a message thanks.I had a chance with BCFD and declined it due to the Paramedic apprentice program so that narrows it down a little.

How are they going to drive that thing around the capitol grounds and the 7 or 8 buildings they "protect"? Besides every time they have had something credible they have to call DC for help and Decon. Soon there will be as many hazmat units in the city as there are "police departments" and all of them just as ineffective.

I also like the Federal Protective Service idea of a hazmat response; two guys and a duffle bag with some zip lock baggies.

Pierce is currently building the two vehicles; expected delivery is in January or February. Our team will have approximately 30 response personnel in the near future. We also have two vehicles that are designated for decon only...pictures to follow soon.

How many other "real" fire departments are there in DC? I know of NDW and Walter Reed, are there any more?

Thanks,

One and only one real fire department in DC ODIE !!

Yeah you might wanna watch how you fraze things on the DC thread there brother. These guys will pounce on you and not look back while doing it. DC has only one fire department. There are however 2 other fire departments within the city limits. WRAMC and NDW.

That's why I used quotes around the word real. I was referring to folks that actually, on occasion, have a chance to fight fire. Not someone who gets to shoot at folks and play with chemicals.

any truth to the rumor that the USCP HMRT guys are being sent to FLETC, so they can carry firearms?
