Is there any truth that Chief Thompson stated the department is in a crisis due to the shortage of medics in the city? Heard six more are leaving, some going to PGFD.

There has been a shortage of sorts for the last 4 years or so since I became involved with DC EMS. I understand it has become worse with the cross overs(who could blame em though) and other jurisdictions making more attractive offers. Dont know what the solution to the problem is. I can tell you I had alot of fun when I was there and made some cool friends. I would come back part time tomorrow if the oppurtunity was there but i dont think the unions would ever allow that....lol.
I would bet any amount of money that alot of suburban and rural medics that like their retirment and benefits at their full time job would beat down the door to work a couple of shifts a month in the District!

I bet DC would be able to fill the void if they allowed part time medics! They would get more than enough to cover the city at any given time, but Dc would never swallow their pride to allow that to happen, which is why they are losing so many in the first place. I feel the same way you do Skymedic, wish I had gone where you went to! :D
