I heard E131 struck a telephone pole and that the transformer was disloged and landed on the cab. Any truth to this?
No, the transformer did not fall from the pole. They did strike a pole and a pad-mounted transformer on the ground, and none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.
I send my prayers to a speedy recovery to all who were involved in this horrible crash. Fire engines can be replaced, Lives cannot. Again hope all is doing well!!!
Glad to hear that all are released and doing better!
Knowing where this intersection is, and seeing the amount of damage, I can only wonder as to why in the HELL the engineman was driving that fast so quickly. This incident was for a "fever", not a cardiac arrest, not even for severe respiratory distress. It was an AF call!!!!!!!!!!
Hopefully ALL the details will be released after a proper investigation is done and any disciplinary action that is warranted is properly placed!

Brother, I think we should wait until the investigation is complete before we make assumptions as to how fast the engine was traveling.
Let the newspapers and haters jump to conclusions and make assumptions . . .
Glad to hear that all are released and doing better!

A fever, wow. That's alot of personnel for a fever.
Glad that everyone is out of the hospital.

That's what happens when the customer service oriented fire department feels the need to run fire apparatus on nonsense medical calls. Cardiac arrest? Trauma? Fine. Fever? Abdominal pain? No way.
Hope all are doing well. I'm sure that the Safety Kangaroo Court will have a field day with this, if it still exists, but I'd hate to see the chauffeur become the new whipping boy for piss poor response policies.
Wednesday, April 22, 2009 - On Tuesday evening Engine 131 was involved in a horrible accident while responding to a call, on Ft. Smallwood Rd in front of Laurer's supermarket. As a result of the accident, the officer was trapped and had to be extricated by Squad 11. The 3 firefighters in the back were all transported to local hospitals while the Driver and Officer were transported to Shock Trauma. Thankfully, all firefighters were treated and released and are home resting with thier families.
Throughout the night, we received a lot of support from the Fire Department family. We would like send thanks to the crew of Squad 11 for thier wonderful efforts in the extrication of the Lieutenant, and to the volunteers of the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company for transferring in to cover for us while we took care of our own. A special thankyou to the community for thier support in the aftermath of this crash, and to everyone that has called to offer support and help in any that they could. We GREATLY appreciate it.
We would like to convey to everyone, that SEAT BELTS SAVE LIVES! That was very evident in last nights crash. So please take the time to click that belt because you never know when you are going to need it!
