I'm a newbie who's very interested in joining a PGVFD and happy to have found your site. I'm located right between Bladensburg and Kentland. I've visited 9 and chatted with the chief and plan to do the same at 33. I also will do a ride-along with both companies.
In looking around TWD, I know passions and house pride run high, so I don't want to start a flame war. But honestly--for those of you who belong to one of these two companies--why did you pick it? Are you happy you did?
If you really want to know why don't you ask the members of each station when you go down there to "Ride Along". Make you own mind up on where you want to join. Don't base YOUR CHOICE on what someone tells you THIER reason was.

You seem to fit into the forum already my man.
They are right in a sort of way you might not be used to yet. You will have to ask them in person. TWD is not really the right place to do it simply because you have people from other stations who will chime in on your conversation to attack another company.
Good luck with your search, but be prepared to grow a thick skin if your gonna post on TWD. It aint easy being cheesey

If you're tryin to join a firehouse in gorgeous Prince georges and you're worried about the opinions of people who are "workin" or "not workin". I'd look into co 22 or 30. They seem to be the places you'd be interested in.

Throttle: I'm not sure I understand your comment. I'm looking to volunteer and 22 is career. I guess chances are this is a "clever" put down that I'm not familiar enough with the county to appreciate. If that's the case, you can kiss my narrow pasty Irish ass. (If it's not, there's no need to pucker up.)
Just so you know, I don't "worry" about much of anything. All I'm trying to do is gather information, but it's been made MORE than clear to me that this ain't the place to do it.
Hey, Franchise. I dunno about "mastered," but the TWD learning curve is pretty damned steep! You gotta adapt quick or die 'round here! I never would have come in all Sally Sunshine if I'd known the ration of sh*t I'd get, but hey, trial by fire, right?
BTW I only said I was a newb at firefighting, not busting balls.
Looks like THAT skill may come in handy no matter which house I choose...
